How do you enter player housing?

The order is what catches people. The park board comes first, the portal second. Walk around the back of the RV without having registered it at the board and there is nothing there to step into. So if you have your vehicle parked and cannot find the entrance, the problem is the board, not the RV.

What you get on the other side is a personal homeland space that is yours to fill. Building, gardening and placing decorations all happen in there, which makes the RV less a vehicle you travel in and more the doorway you keep coming back to.

Layout codes are the part worth knowing before you start arranging anything. Whole homeland layouts and individual furniture groups can both be passed between players as codes, so a setup someone else has worked out does not have to be rebuilt piece by piece by everyone who wants it. If you are the sort of player who would rather copy a good garden than design one, that is the route.
