How do you bond with Irisalis?

The order is the part that catches people out. The pod comes first. Crafting the Legendary Aniipod is what unlocks the battle at all, and it puts an exclusive story and a map encounter in front of you. You do not stumble across Irisalis in the world and then go looking for materials. Nothing appears until the pod is in your bag.

So the same item does two jobs. It is the key that opens the encounter, and it is the thing you throw at the end of it. Between those two moments sits a fight you have to win. Treat the encounter as a boss first and a catch second, because the throw only lands after Irisalis is beaten. If you go in expecting to soften it up and seal it mid-battle, you will be waiting a long time.

The template every other legendary follows

Irisalis is not a one-off in structure. Legendary encounters across the game run on the pattern this one sets: craft the pod, unlock the story, win the fight, throw. Learning the rhythm here is worth more than the single bond, because it tells you what to prepare for the next legendary you go after.

Skins rather than second forms

Once bonded, Irisalis has an appearance customization system. What that gives you is cosmetic skins, not alternate evolutionary forms. Changing how it looks does not change what it is or what it can do, so pick on looks alone and do not hold off on a skin in case it locks you out of something.

Not settled: How much the crafted pod actually matters at the moment of the throw is not settled. Irisalis has been sealed with only two or three Ultra Pods, which sits awkwardly next to a catch that is supposed to hinge on the legendary pod.
