How fast travel and world exploration work

Your Aniimo are part of how you cross the map. Twining can take you underground, and clearing a region's exploration earns perks such as area and weather control.

The short version

  1. A stamina bar governs sprinting and dodging during combat, so running hard and dodging use the same meter.
  2. Aniimo take part in movement, combat, exploration and the Homeland system. They are not just fighters you call in for battles.
  3. Twining with certain Aniimo grants a burrowing ability that lets you tunnel underground and interact with field objects.
  4. Hidden caves can sit behind cliffs and waterfalls, so a blank rock face or a curtain of water is worth a closer look.
  5. Completing a region's exploration activities unlocks map-wide progression perks such as area and weather control.

Getting around in Aniimo is less about you crossing the map alone and more about what you and your Aniimo can do together. The creatures you raise also take part in movement and exploration, and some of them change how you can reach places.

This guide covers the parts of field movement that shape your first hours: the stamina bar, burrowing through Twining, where hidden caves tend to be, and why finishing a region's exploration is worth the effort.

Stamina, sprinting and dodging

A stamina bar governs sprinting and dodging during combat. Both draw on the same meter, which means a fight is partly a budgeting problem. If you sprint into an encounter you have less left for getting out of the way once it starts.

You are not doing all of this alone. Aniimo take part in movement and combat as well as exploration and the Homeland system, so the creatures you bring along matter outside battle too. Treat your team as part of how you travel, not just as what you fight with.

Burrowing and hidden caves

Twining with certain Aniimo grants a burrowing ability. It lets you tunnel underground and interact with field objects, so it is a way of moving through the world and a way of working with it, both at once. Not every Aniimo offers it. The ability comes only from Twining with certain ones, so which creatures you have decides how you can get through an area.

The world also hides things in plain view. Hidden caves can be located behind cliffs and waterfalls. When you pass a sheer rock face or a waterfall, stop and check it rather than walking past. Those are the spots where a cave is most likely to be tucked away.

Why regional exploration pays off

Exploration has a payoff beyond whatever you find in one spot. Completing regional exploration activities unlocks map-wide progression perks such as area and weather control. The work is done one region at a time, but the reward reaches across the whole map.

That is the strongest reason not to rush past a region's side activities. Your Aniimo take part in exploration as much as in combat, so clearing a region's activities with them is progression in its own right.

Where to start

Keep some stamina in reserve when you head into a fight, and find out which of your Aniimo can grant burrowing through Twining. Look behind cliffs and waterfalls for caves. Clear each region's exploration activities rather than skipping them, because that is how you unlock map-wide perks like area and weather control.
