Do pre-order editions include starting bonuses?

What you get is tied to the edition you buy rather than to the act of pre-ordering itself. On consoles there are two extended editions available before launch, the Advanced Edition and the Collector's Edition, sitting above a standard pre-order.

The Collector's Edition pre-order pack is the one with named contents. It runs $20 on console and carries exclusive in-game accessories plus the Collector's Companion Guide. What is listed there is cosmetic gear and a guide, so you are paying for items that arrive with your account rather than a different version of the game.

The platform changes what you get

Pre-orders are open across consoles, Xbox included, and the machine you order on can add its own item. Xbox Series X pre-orders come with the Doggo Dude, an accessory themed to the platform and exclusive to it.

That matters if you own more than one console and were going to decide later. The Doggo Dude does not come attached to a larger edition bought elsewhere. If you want it, the pre-order has to go through Xbox Series X.

Not settled: What the Advanced Edition includes beyond the base game has not been spelled out, so the Collector's Edition is the only extended edition with a known item list. Pre-order bonuses outside consoles are also unsettled at this stage.
