Guides › How combat works in Aniimo
How does combat work?
Combat takes place in real time and involves active dodging, positioning, stamina management, and skill cooldown management.

Battles run continuously without pauses. You control a single Aniimo at a time from your party, using team switching to cycle through members and access their skills. Health is tracked on a standard HP bar rather than a hit-count shield, and stars restore health when picked up during an encounter.
Target lock-on and targeting assistance help direct your focus in a fight. Movement relies on sprinting, dashing, and dodging to clear incoming strikes, all of which consume stamina. Combat abilities remain bound to cooldown timers, requiring you to pace your attacks instead of firing them continuously.
Command Mode and Twine Mode
Combat divides into Command Mode and Twine Mode. In Twine Mode and transformed creature combat, you directly handle timing attacks, dashing, real-time dodging, and positioning for skill execution.
Utility abilities function in real time as well. Deploying Smoke Screen blankets the immediate area in smoke, allowing you to escape danger or catch enemies unprepared.
Enemy Behavior and Scaling
Enemies use an aggro system. Rather than spreading damage across the party, they concentrate attacks on whichever Pathfinder currently holds their aggro. Opponents can also be knocked over or toppled in combat.
Ground-based and airborne Aniimo display different combat behaviors, and flying Aniimo are weak against ranged attacks. In the overworld, wild Aniimo scale in level and difficulty to match your World Level. Boss encounters include Alphas as well as Omegas, which serve as major boss fights built around specific combat mechanics. Fighting opponents of a significantly higher level causes a large drop in the damage you deal and an increase in the damage you take.
