How does Twinning work in combat?
Players can directly control and fight as their Aniimo through the Twinning mechanic.
◇verified at launch · Sept 2026
During combat you choose between two operating states: Command mode and Twine mode. In Command mode, you remain on the field as your Pathfinder. Your Aniimo fights automatically while you direct it, issuing tactical orders and calling for abilities. The Pathfinder participates directly in real time using personal attacks and gadgets, shielded by a hit-based barrier rather than a standard health bar.
Fusing directly into the creature shifts the battle into Twine mode. This replaces your human actions, standard mobility, and equipment skills with direct manual control over the creature itself. Twining yields access to the Aniimo's full moveset, consisting of a basic attack, two energy-consuming active skills, and a dedicated evasive maneuver.
Tradeoffs between Pathfinder and Twine combat
Fighting as an Aniimo is generally more offensively powerful than remaining in human form. However, merging completely into the creature locks out your Pathfinder toolset.
Pathfinder Active Skills can only be triggered while operating separately in human form. This includes vital utility like the Pathfinder active healing ability, which restores a targeted Aniimo's HP. Staying fused maximizes raw offensive moves, but stepping back into Command mode is required if you need to deploy human gadgets or patch up your creature with Pathfinder skills.
Not settled: Whether different forms of the same Aniimo feature distinct Ultimate Skills during battle remains unsettled, as documented form variations currently list only elements, base stats, and habitats.
