Guides › How to Find Umbral Aniimo
What do Umbral Aniimo look like?
Umbral Aniimo feature unique coloration with a Darkler appearance.
◇verified at launch · Sept 2026
Colour is the whole tell. An Umbral is a creature you already recognise wearing a palette it does not normally have, shaded the way a Darkler is shaded. The silhouette does not change. You are looking for the wrong colours on a familiar shape.
There is also not one Umbral look per species. Umbral Aniimo come in distinct colour variants, so two of the same Aniimo in Umbral form will not necessarily match each other. Treat the dark, off-palette cast as the signal and the exact shade as variation within it.
Learning to spot it quickly is worth the effort, because every Umbrawl Aniimo, the same creatures under their other name, is guaranteed perfect potential stats. Recognising the coloration in the field is recognising a perfect-stat catch before you have done anything with it.
Check before you register or release
At camp, look at an Aniimo's Alpha status, its weather or special forms, and its potential grade before you register or release it. That habit matters most here. An Umbral you release by accident is a perfect-potential creature gone, and the coloration is the thing that would have told you.
Dark-looking is not the same as Umbral
Aniimo have multiple forms, they evolve, and they have rare variants of their own, so unusual colours in the wild are not automatically Umbral. Weather in particular pushes unique Aniimo into the world, and what spawns shifts with it. Dark forms proper, meaning Darklers and the Umbrabow form, are a separate thing again and come only out of Egg Heist, where banked currency also buys an Umbrabow egg. Umbral Aniimo turn up in the open world at random, which is the practical difference.
Not settled: The same creatures are called Umbral, Umbra and Umbrawl in different places, so a colour variant listed under one of those names is the same thing as the others.
