How to Find Umbral Aniimo

Umbral Aniimo spawn naturally, at random and at a low rate, while you roam the open world. Radiant variants do the same. You encounter and capture them like any wild creature. Evolved and fully evolved creatures can also appear directly in Umbral form, so the wild is not limited to first stages.

One quiet spawn at a time is the slow way to hunt. Umbrals can also appear in group spawns, and that is where your odds improve, simply because more creatures are rolling at once. The ones that count are mass surge groups and groups triggered by grooming or Nurture. Wild surges, which you activate through ecosystem nurturing, have a chance to spawn rare Umbras too. The Sanctum is worth a look as well. Umbra eggs appear there in nests, alongside Prismana eggs. In the Lost Sanctum limited-time mode, activating the statue starts consecutive waves of Umbral Aniimo, which is the closest the game comes to putting them in front of you on purpose.

The Wind Chaser badge raises open-world spawn rates for both Sparkling and Umbral Aniimo. Its first stage adds about 50%, which brings the odds to roughly 1 in 2,000 for an Umbral and roughly 1 in 13,000 for a Sparkling.

The catch is the range. Whether the bonus applies across the whole map or only in Breezy Plains is not settled. If you want the bonus without guessing, hunt in Breezy Plains, where it applies either way.

An Umbral is several times more common than a Sparkling under the badge. That is why players hold on to Sparkling Cubes: catching an Aniimo with one makes it a Sparkling version, Umbras included, so a Cube used on an Umbral gives you both rarities on one creature. Operation Egg Heist rewards a broad selection of special eggs, including rare Prismana eggs and Umbral (Darkler) eggs. Competing teams extract them, and you are awarded the egg on extraction. Umbral eggs hatch into Umbral Aniimo, which makes Egg Heist the place to farm them. In the beta it was the only place to get them. Rewards on Normal difficulty can include an Umbral egg, so you do not need the hardest setting to start.

Egg Heist eggs hatch regular, Umbral or Prismana Aniimo from any region. That includes fully evolved forms, fully evolved Umbrals among them, and forms that cannot be obtained anywhere else in the game. Mysterious Prismana eggs are also farmable, with three Prismana egg rewards to work toward.

Some dark forms are exclusive to Egg Heist outright. Darklers and the Umbrabow form come only from there, and the currency you build up can be exchanged for an Umbrabow egg. Dark (Umbra) Prismana forms come only from Prismana eggs taken in Egg Heist, and those eggs are guaranteed to hatch an Umbra Aniimo. One more egg source sits outside the mode. Displaying prismatic relics in the collectible display case unlocks egg rewards, including Prismana or Umbral eggs, mystery egg boxes and avatar frames.

This is not settled. Umbral Aniimo are described as guaranteed to have perfect potential, with perfect base stats on every one, wild ones included, regardless of level, form or capture device. They are also described as able to spawn with normal, elite or perfect grades. Until that is resolved, check the grade on each catch or hatch rather than assuming it.

Prismana forms carry the same caution. A Prismana form is not guaranteed to be perfect rarity either.

What is settled is that the grade travels with the creature. Evolving an Aniimo or changing its form preserves its perfect potential grading, and that holds for Umbral Aniimo too. So a perfect Umbral stays perfect if you evolve it. It just stops being Umbral, which is the next problem.

An Umbra Aniimo keeps its Umbra form only while it stays at the evolution stage you caught it in. Evolving or transforming it permanently removes the Umbral form, and that includes changing it into a Prismana or weather form. The unique dark appearance, the state and the special perks all go, and the new form does not keep any of them. There is no undo.

The game does show a confirmation warning before it lets the evolution go ahead. Read it. If the dark look is the reason you wanted the creature, leave it unevolved.

If you want an Umbral of a specific creature, farm Egg Heist eggs, starting on Normal. If you are out in the open world anyway, wear the Wind Chaser badge, hunt in Breezy Plains and prioritise surges and nurture spawns. Check the grade on everything you get. Never evolve an Umbral you want to keep looking Umbral.
