Guides › Pawney line: grappling, Shadow Cut and where to find it

What does Pawney's Hookshot do?

Hookshot is Pawney's mobility skill: it aims toward the centre of the view, stretches Pawney's arm and pulls Pawney to whatever it hits, either a wall or an enemy.

It works in and out of combat. A wall gives you a route, and an enemy gives you a gap closer. The reticle sits at the centre of your view, so wherever you are looking when you fire decides where Pawney ends up.

In a fight, Hookshot is how a pure Dark DPS gets onto its target fast. Time it well, because Pawney hits hardest against enemies that are already broken. Its Pursuit trait adds up to 30% bonus damage against enemies in the BREAK state or under crowd control, and its ultimate deals increased damage to broken enemies. The useful habit is to wait for the break, then hook in and unload, rather than pulling in at the start of the fight.

That timing is why the recommended dark team is built the way it is. Pawney is the main DPS, Infal Lupa supplies the break, Turbo supports and Glacy heals. Hookshot gets Pawney to the target the moment Infal Lupa has done its job.

Getting a Pawney to use it

Pawney evolves from Helmut, and the Warrior quest line is required to obtain it. That chain is time-gated and takes about two real-world days, so start it early. If you want a perfect Pawney, evolve a perfect Helmut during The Legend of Helmuts and Helgons quest, before pulling the sword. Perfect potential carries through the evolution.

Pawney also has a Prismana form, and it keeps its pure Dark typing there.
