Holo Battle Interlink boss modifiers: chains and bombs

Two Interlink anomalies fire every 45 seconds: chain robots and bomb seeds. Here is how to handle both, use the Primary Attacker Rune and turn a chain against Bolthis.

The short version

  1. Holo Battle Interlink bosses carry anomaly modifiers that rotate weekly and change the arena, so the same boss can play differently from one week to the next.
  2. One modifier spawns a chain robot every 45 seconds that temporarily restrains players; another spawns a bomb seed every 45 seconds that explodes into a damaging zone.
  3. Against Bolthis, running the chain tether through the boss chains it, staggering it and heavily reducing its break gauge.
  4. The player who interacts with the Primary Attacker Rune gains 70% increased damage.
  5. When the tank token holder (primary attacker) falls to low HP, every other ally loses 25% of max HP to heal them, so letting that player drop hurts the whole team.

Holo Battle Interlink bosses do not fight the same way every week. Each one carries anomaly modifiers that rotate weekly and change the arena around you, and two of them show up often enough to plan around: chain robots and bomb seeds.

Both run on a timer. Both target players rather than the boss. And one of them, handled well, can be pointed back at the thing you are trying to kill.

This page covers what the chain and bomb modifiers do, how the Primary Attacker Rune fits in, and the one fight where a chain is something you want.

How the weekly anomalies work

Anomaly modifiers are attached to Holo Battle Interlink bosses and rotate on a weekly cycle. They affect the arena itself, which means the threat is not only the boss's own moveset but whatever the modifier adds on top.

Two modifiers share the same rhythm. One spawns a chain robot every 45 seconds, and the robot temporarily restrains players. The other spawns a bomb seed every 45 seconds, and the seed explodes into a damaging zone. A fixed timer is the useful part: once you have seen the first spawn, you know when the next one is coming, and you can position for it instead of reacting to it.

45 seconds

Spawn interval for chain robots and bomb seeds

A chain robot or bomb seed arrives every 45 seconds, so the team has to plan around a steady rhythm of restraints and damaging zones.

Chain robots and who they lock down

The chain robot's job is to take a player out of the fight for a while. The Chainbot immobilizes one random Pathfinder on the field, so you cannot predict who gets caught, only when.

The same idea appears in individual boss fights. The Alpha Erizal boss chains one player to a robot, locking them down. In the Aerosol fight a robot spawns and chains one player. In solo play that matters more than it sounds: a chained player's team is left to the AI, so for the length of the restraint your creatures are fighting without you steering them.

The practical answer is to treat every 45-second spawn as a moment when one of you will be stuck. Do not commit your big damage window just before it lands.

Turning the chain against Bolthis

Against the boss Bolthis, a chain is not only a problem. Running the chain tether through the boss chains it, staggering it and heavily reducing its break gauge.

So in that fight, getting chained becomes an opening rather than downtime. The chained player's position decides where the tether runs, and putting the boss between you and the robot is what turns the restraint into a stagger. Breaks themselves are covered in the main Alpha boss mechanics article; the point here is that this is the one chain you should be lining up on purpose.

Bomb seeds and Trick Bomb

The bomb seed modifier is the area denial half of the pair. Every 45 seconds a seed spawns and explodes into a damaging zone, so the safe floor shrinks for a while each time one goes off. Keep track of where seeds land and do not get pinned against one when the chain robot arrives.

It sits alongside a separate boss mechanic, Trick Bomb, which attaches an explosive bomb above a random player that detonates after a delay. The delay is your warning: whoever carries it should move away from the group before it goes off.

The Primary Attacker Rune and the tank token

The Primary Attacker Rune is the reward in the arena. The player who interacts with it gains 70% increased damage, which makes it the obvious pickup for whoever is best placed to keep hitting the boss.

The primary attacker role also has a team cost. When the tank token holder (primary attacker) falls to low HP, every other ally loses 25% of max HP to heal them. A primary attacker who stands in a bomb zone or gets caught by a chain at low health is not only risking themselves; they drain everyone else too. Keep that player out of the 45-second spawns where you can.

70%

Damage gained from the Primary Attacker Rune

Only the player who interacts with the rune gains the bonus, so the team should give it to its main damage dealer.

Where to start

Learn the 45-second rhythm first: one chain robot, one bomb seed, both on a timer. Keep the primary attacker out of both, give the Primary Attacker Rune to whoever can hold uptime on the boss, and against Bolthis run the chain through the boss instead of away from it.
