How to Find and Track Lumin Amber
Lumin Amber gates abilities and game modes in Aniimo. Here is how the alert, the map icons and the tracking keybind lead you to every crystal nearby.
The short version
- Skipping Lumin Amber holds you back, because some abilities and game modes stay locked until you have it.
- Your companion robot puts an alert on screen whenever a Lumin Amber is nearby, so you never have to find one by chance.
- The map marks Lumin Amber locations with icons, and a tracking keybind prompts you when you are close.
- Lumin Amber comes from loose pick-ups, environmental and movement puzzles, mini-games, time trials, town and open-world trials, temples, Sanctums and catching Blessed Aniimo.
- Every Lumin Amber you collect gives experience and pushes that region's exploration progress, and some also give eggs.
Lumin Amber is a crystal formed from overflowing vein energy, and in Aniimo it is spread across the whole open world map. Some of it sits in the open for you to pick up. The rest is locked behind puzzles, mini-games, trials and Sanctums.
You can't treat it as an optional collectible. Lumin Amber is a progression resource, and certain abilities and game modes stay locked until you have it. If you skip the crystals on your way through a region, you slow yourself down later.
The good news is that the game tells you where they are. The rest of this guide covers how the alerts and the map work, where Lumin Amber comes from, and what you get for picking it up.
Why Aniimo Lumin Amber is worth every detour
Lumin Amber directly advances both regional and world progression. It is also a currency, spent across most of the systems that make you stronger: Pathfinder upgrades, creature progression, equipment, Homeland development, world activities, and upgrading the Branch in Idol.
Because it feeds so many systems, running short hurts in several places at once. Bypassing it hinders progression, since certain abilities and game modes are locked behind it. You don't have to clear every crystal the moment you see it, but it pays to come back for the ones you left.
How the game tells you a crystal is close
You don't have to scan the scenery for Lumin Amber. Your companion robot puts an on-screen notification up whenever one is nearby. If that alert appears, stop and look around before you move on.
The map does the rest. It shows icons that pinpoint Lumin Amber locations, so you can plan a route through a region instead of wandering. When you get close to one, a tracking keybind prompt appears, which lets you home in on the exact spot.
The hoverboard helps with the distance in between. It lets you move faster over ground in open areas, which makes a map full of scattered icons much quicker to clear.
Where Lumin Amber comes from
The simplest source is the loose crystals. Lumin Amber is scattered across the open world as pick-ups, and you just walk up and take them.
Most of the rest is behind something you have to do. Environmental puzzles and movement puzzles on the map reward it, and so do mini-games and time trials. Completing trials in the open world or in towns also rewards Lumin Amber, and so do temples.
Sanctums are another reliable source: completing or closing one rewards Lumin Amber. They have their own guide on this site, which covers how they work and what else they give.
One source is easy to overlook because it has nothing to do with exploring. Catching Blessed Aniimo also gives Lumin Amber, so hunting creatures and collecting crystals are not separate jobs.
What each Lumin Amber pays out
Collecting Lumin Amber gives experience and counts toward exploration progression. It adds to the exploration progress of the region you are in, so clearing crystals is how you work a region toward completion.
There is also a bonus for egg hunters. Collecting Lumin Amber can award eggs alongside other prizes, so a thorough sweep of a region can top up your hatching as well as your upgrades.
Where to start
Watch for your robot's alert, open the map to see the icons, and use the hoverboard to get between them. Pick up the loose crystals as you pass, and come back for the puzzles, trials and Sanctums. Lumin Amber unlocks abilities and modes, pays for most of your upgrades and can drop eggs, so leaving it behind just costs you later.
