World Level and Player XP

World Level sets how hard the overworld hits and how much it pays. Here is what it changes, and where the experience actually comes from.

The short version

  1. The level and difficulty of wild Aniimo in the overworld scale to your World Level.
  2. Fighting something significantly above your level cuts the damage you deal and raises the damage you take.
  3. Experience comes from catches, Sanctum puzzle dungeons, experience gems in treasure chests, and Alpha Aniimo world bosses.
  4. Catch after raising World Level and the creature arrives at a higher level, so you grind less experience into it.
  5. Alpha and Omega drops improve at higher world levels, as do rewards from the Energy System.
  6. Spawns and the forms Aniimo appear in shift with location, weather, other environmental conditions, and the day-night cycle.

World Level is the dial behind the overworld. The level and difficulty of wild Aniimo scale to it, so the map you walk into at a high World Level is not the map you started on.

That cuts both ways. Everything out there hits harder, and everything out there is worth more. The creatures you catch come out stronger, and the rewards you pull in improve.

So the question is never whether to raise it. The question is whether your team is ready for the world that comes back.

What your World Level actually controls

Wild Aniimo in the overworld scale their level and difficulty to your World Level. Raise it and the same field holds tougher creatures than it did yesterday.

The payoff is on the catching side. Capture a wild Aniimo after increasing your World Level and it comes to you at a higher level, which means less experience you have to feed it later. If there is a creature you know you want on the team long term, catching it late is cheaper than catching it early and hauling it up by hand.

World Level also improves the quality of what the Energy System pays out. The same spend returns better rewards at a higher World Level than it does at a lower one.

Fighting above your level

A significant level gap is punishing in both directions at once. Against an opponent well above you, the damage you deal drops hard and the damage you take goes up. It is not a slow grind you can out-heal. It is two multipliers working against you in the same fight.

The same gap follows you into captures. Being a lower level than the creature you are trying to catch reduces your odds, so an overlevelled target is both harder to beat down and harder to keep.

That is the cost side of raising World Level. If your team is not keeping pace, the overworld stops being a place you farm and starts being a place that farms you.

Where the experience and drops come from

Sanctum puzzle dungeons award experience for completing them, which makes them worth clearing even when you are only passing through. Treasure chests scattered across the world hold experience gems, so opening everything you walk past is not a detour.

Alpha Aniimo world bosses carry substantial experience bonuses for defeating them. Alpha and Omega Aniimo also pay better at higher world levels, so the same boss fought later returns more than it would have earlier. That is the main argument for pushing World Level rather than sitting still.

And do the side quests. The main story is not the whole of your progression, and treating it as the only track leaves experience on the map.

What you meet depends on where and when

Spawns are not a flat table. Which Aniimo appear, and which forms they appear in, shift with location, weather, other environmental conditions, and the in-game time of day and the day-night cycle. A spot that is empty at noon in clear weather is not the same spot at night in a storm.

That matters for experience because catching Aniimo awards you player experience, and species you have not caught before award more. So the hunt for new entries and the hunt for levels are the same hunt. Learning which conditions produce which creatures is what turns a lap of the map into progress rather than repetition.

Where to start

Raise World Level when your team can take the hit, and catch the creatures you care about afterwards rather than before. Clear chests and Sanctums as you pass them, take the Alphas when you can win, and time your hunts around the conditions that produce species you have not caught yet.
