Guides › Carried Items: Equipping and Enhancing Gear
How do runes work with carried items in Aniimo?
Carried items can be slotted with runes, amplifying their effects and making them stronger.
Pawprint Studio removed this system entirely for the 16 September 2026 launch.
The studio announced on 3 September 2026 that the closed beta rune system was scrapped, eliminating random runes, random rune slots, and rune capacity. Runes can no longer be crafted or equipped in the live game.
Held items, which were called carried items during the beta, no longer roll random rune slots. They grant passive bonuses such as increased HP, stat boosts, buffs, and damage amplification, upgrading directly through Held Item Cores in Basic, Common, and Advanced grades instead of slotted enhancements.
Closed Beta Rune Mechanics
During the closed beta, runes functioned as a customisation layer across Uncommon, Rare, Epic, and Legendary rarities. Socketing runes into a carried item boosted combat stats and built up orbs to unlock tiered advanced effects. The first tier unlocked at 10 orbs. Runes of higher rarity contributed more orbs, with a Common rune valued at 1 and a Legendary rune costing four capacity points. There was no orange rarity and no confirmed four-orb value for any rarity.
Exceptionally rare Legendary runes granted superior stats, including large damage increases. Upgrading could also be done by crafting five Epic runes into a single Legendary rune. None of these socketing mechanics or capacity limits exist in the release version of Aniimo.
