Guides › How to burn vines and reach hidden nests in Aniimo

What are Aniimo field abilities used for in the overworld?

Certain Aniimo field abilities, such as water abilities used on environmental water puzzles, let players interact with and solve environmental puzzles, and they are required to reach specific overworld areas.

Field powers only activate when Twining with an Aniimo outside of combat.

Merging with a creature replaces your standard movement and tools with that specific form, letting you interact directly with the environment. Different elements clear specific physical blockades. Fire-type Aniimo can melt ice, burn away wooden barriers, and clear path-blocking vines. Flameruff and Scorchhowl learn Fire Bolt, which lets you ignite distant flammable objects to uncover sealed chests, while water forms trigger environmental water puzzles.

Biome traversal and mobility skills

Twining grants physical movement options tailored to navigating different habitats, underground caves, and open water. Forms allow you to sprint, climb vertical walls and cliffs, swim, dive, glide, fly vertically, and burrow underground. Certain wild egg nests can only be reached by twining with an Aniimo that has the required climbing, flight, or swimming ability.

Specific creatures also bring individual traversal skills. Emberpup has Hustle for rapid sprinting, while Helion has a variant of Hustle that increases sprint and movement speed while draining stamina. Nimbi uses Puff Up to jump higher and execute a horizontal dash in mid-air. Celestis can both climb walls and fly or glide. Pawney uses Hookshot to stretch its arm toward the center of your view, pulling itself directly to whichever wall or enemy it hits.

Twined abilities are also mandatory inside Sanctums. These instanced puzzle shrines restrict you to twining with select Aniimo to work through environmental puzzle rooms and reach the chest at the end.

Wild Aniimo interactions and quests

Field forms also change how you interact with wildlife across the world. You must twine into an Aniimo of the corresponding family, such as an Emberpup, to understand and converse with wild creatures.

Assuming the matching form lets you accept species-specific quests from wild Aniimo that are otherwise unavailable. Moving through an area while twined into that species also causes a small number of matching wild Aniimo to follow behind you.
