How Crossplay and Account Progression Work in Aniimo
Aniimo plays across platforms, but a shared platform is not the same as a shared game. The server select is what actually decides who you can see.
The short version
- Aniimo supports cross-platform play, so players on platforms such as PlayStation 5 and Xbox can play together.
- Cross-platform co-op is listed for the Xbox version.
- Everyone who wants to play together has to select the same server. This matters more than which machine anyone owns.
- Aniimo needs an active, continuous internet connection and has no offline mode. Solo play is included in that.
- Online console multiplayer may require a paid platform subscription.
Two questions come up constantly about Aniimo, and people tend to ask them as if they were one question: does crossplay work, and what is a server for. They are separate systems, and only one of them will actually keep you apart from a friend.
Crossplay is about hardware. Aniimo supports cross-platform play, so the machine under your friend's television is mostly not the deciding factor. The server is about a choice you both make inside the game, and getting that choice wrong separates you even when you are on identical consoles sitting in the same room.
On top of both sits a requirement that shapes everything else: Aniimo has no offline mode at all.
Aniimo crossplay across PlayStation and Xbox
Aniimo supports cross-platform play, allowing players on platforms such as PlayStation 5 and Xbox to play together. That is the short answer to the question most people are typing, and it is a yes.
Cross-platform co-op is listed specifically for the Xbox version. So co-op is not some separate mode an Xbox player has to hunt for or a feature that arrives on that platform later. It is part of what the version ships with.
The practical upshot is that you can stop negotiating hardware. If someone asks which console to buy so they can play with you, the honest answer is that it does not decide the question.
Everyone has to pick the same server
Here is the part that trips people up. Players who want to play together must all select the same server. Not the same platform, not the same region by accident of where they live. The same server, chosen deliberately.
That makes server select the one step worth coordinating before anybody presses anything. Agree on it in chat first. Crossplay removes the hardware barrier and then hands you a new one that is entirely down to a choice you make at the start.
It matters because the group content is where Aniimo spends its multiplayer energy. Egg Heist, team battlegrounds and PvP are all activities you are doing with other people, and other people means people on your server. Our co-op and hub guide goes through how those activities work; for the purposes of this page, the only thing you need is that none of them reach across a server boundary for you.
There is no offline mode, solo included
Aniimo requires an active, continuous internet connection to play. There is no offline mode, which means the connection is needed even when you are playing alone and doing nothing that involves another player.
So a flaky connection is not just a multiplayer problem in this game. It is a play problem. Treat the network the way you would treat a required install rather than something that only matters on raid night.
There is also a cost that console players should price in. Online console multiplayer in Aniimo may require a paid platform subscription. If you are on console and you plan to do anything with other people, check your platform's subscription status before you make arrangements with friends.
Where to start
Sort the server out before you sort anything else. Agree on one with whoever you are playing with, check your console subscription if you are on PlayStation or Xbox, and make sure your connection is solid enough to carry solo sessions too.
