Operation: Egg Heist
Egg Heist is Aniimo's extraction mode, and the twist is that you do not carry the loot. You become it. Here is how a run is shaped, what happens when you pick up an egg, and what you actually walk away with.
The short version
- Runs start on the beach beside the boats. The blue gate takes you into the Sanctum, the purple gate spits you back out near the boats.
- Picking up an egg twines you with it: you physically become the egg and lose your combat abilities. The Mega Rare Egg leaves you with jump and dash, nothing else.
- You can untwine to fight and retwine afterwards, and the Tough Egg upgrade gives you 10% damage reduction while twined.
- Eggs are submitted by interacting with the boat, and you can only extract safely once the run's evacuation requirements are met.
- Extracted eggs arrive in the in-game mailbox and hatch into usable Aniimo. Other resources sell for eggshell coins, with a bulk sell-all option.
- The mode shop sells backpacks for 5,000 coins, and there are seven ranks to climb.
- Darklers are tied to Egg Heist, so this mode is the route to them.
Egg Heist is the mode Aniimo hangs its extraction loop on, and it is also where Darklers live. If you want them, this is the door.
The structure is simple enough to learn in one run. You spawn on the beach next to the boats, go in through a gate, find eggs, and bring them back to the boat. What complicates it is the carrying. In most games loot goes in a bag. Here it goes over your whole body.
Everything below is from pre-launch beta footage, so treat exact behaviour as build-dependent where it looks unstable. The shape of the mode is clear.
Where a run happens
Matches begin at the beach area beside the boats. That beach is both your start line and your finish line, which is worth fixing in your head early, because the whole run is a loop back to where you stood at the beginning.
The Sanctum is entered through the blue gate. Coming out is a different gate: pass through the purple one and you are back in the outdoor area near the boats. Two gates, two directions, and no reason to confuse them once you know which colour does what.
Extraction is not a matter of standing in the right place at the right time. You can extract safely at the boat once the run's evacuation requirements have been met, and carried eggs are submitted by interacting with the boat itself. Reaching the sand is not the same as banking the loot.
Carrying an egg means becoming one
Twining with an egg physically transforms you into the egg. This is not a cosmetic change or an animation. The player who picks up the giant egg is transformed into it and loses their combat abilities, which means the moment you commit to carrying, you stop being a fighter and start being an objective.
The Mega Rare Egg is the sharpest version of this. Pick it up and you can jump and dash. That is the entire moveset. Anything that comes at you on the way back is somebody else's problem to solve.
So the escort is not optional politeness, it is the mechanic. Your teammates protect you and walk you back until the team evacuates. If nobody is willing to do that job, do not pick up the big egg.
Twined with the egg
- The player is physically transformed into the egg.
- Combat abilities are lost.
- A player holding the Mega Rare Egg can only jump and dash.
- Teammates must protect and escort the carrier until the team evacuates.
Untwined
- Untwining lets the player fight in combat.
- The player can retwine once the fight is over.
- Teammates who are not twined keep their abilities and escort the carrier.
Staying alive while you are the cargo
There are two ways to soften the helplessness. The first is the untwine option: a player twined with an egg can untwine to fight in combat and then retwine afterwards. That turns a hard commitment into a flexible one. If the escort collapses and something is chewing on you, you can put the egg down, deal with it, and pick the run back up.
The second is the Tough Egg upgrade, which grants 10% damage reduction while you are twined. It will not save you from a coordinated push, but it buys the escort time to react, and on a long walk back to the boats that time is the difference between banking an egg and losing one.
Read them together and the intended rhythm is obvious. Carry by default, untwine when the fight is unavoidable, retwine and keep moving.

What extraction actually pays
Eggs that make it out are not handed to you at the end screen. They are delivered to the in-game mailbox, and you have to collect them from there. Those eggs hatch into usable Aniimo, so a successful run adds to your roster rather than just your wallet.
Everything else you drag out is currency. Items and resources extracted from Egg Heist sell for eggshell coins, and there is a bulk sell-all interface so you are not clicking through a backpack line by line after every run.
Those coins go back into the mode. The Egg Heist shop sells backpacks for 5,000 coins, which is the sort of purchase you want early rather than late. On top of that the mode has seven total ranks, so there is a progression track running underneath the individual runs. And Darklers are tied to Egg Heist specifically. If a Darkler is what you came for, no other mode is going to give it to you.

How many players, and whether they shoot at you
Group size is flexible. Egg Heist can be played solo without requiring a partner, or attempted as a two-player team with a friend. Some accounts of the mode describe three-player teams gathering eggs and resources before escaping.
The PvP question is genuinely unsettled in the pre-launch material. Accounts disagree. Some describe a dedicated PvP or PvPvE mode, characterised either as an objective-holding match between two teams or as an extraction-style run against other players. Another describes it as a cooperative mode with no PvP combat at all. Aniimo's multiplayer offering does include Egg Heist alongside team battlegrounds and PvP, so the mode sits in a lineup where PvP exists either way.
Plan for the worse case. If you are twined into an egg with jump and dash and no attacks, the difference between an ambush by monsters and an ambush by players is mostly academic. You still cannot fight back.
Where to start
Learn the boat first. Everything else in Egg Heist is a variation on the same problem: you found an egg, you cannot fight while you hold it, and the boat is a long way away. Bring people you trust, buy the backpack early, and check the mailbox before you assume a run was wasted.
