Operation: Egg Heist
Egg Heist is PvE only right now. Learn what ends a run, what one egg gets you at the boat, and why one death costs your whole backpack.
The short version
- Egg Heist PvP is not available right now. Only the PvE mode can be played, and no PvP release date has been announced.
- You extract on your own once you complete one personal objective: submit one Aniimo Egg yourself, or collect a set number of Eggshell Coins.
- Fainting, dying or failing to extract permanently loses your whole backpack, its loot and any equipped Heist gear not covered by protection items.
- Your first three matches at lower ranks run under beginner protection, so a death uses up a charge instead of your loot.
- The carry weight cap is 72 kg, and from 73 kg you cannot move at all.
Operation: Egg Heist is Aniimo's end-game extraction mode. You land on an island, search for resources and exclusive Aniimo eggs, fight wild creatures, and then you have to get it all out. Anything you don't extract, you don't keep.
It goes by a lot of names: PvP Egg Heist, Diamond Egg Heist, Diamond Egg Theft and Diamond Egg Stealing all mean the same mode. It first appeared in the third beta. You can run it as many times as you like, since there are no entry limits.
The story is a solo affair, so Egg Heist is one of the optional extras sitting next to it, along with invite-only co-op and cross-platform play. You don't need it to finish the game, but this is where the eggs are.
Is Egg Heist PvP?
Not right now. The only version you can play today is PvE, and there is no announced date for PvP. Most people searching "egg heist pvp" want exactly that answer.
On paper the mode is built as PvPvE. Players fight wild creatures and rival squads, and they can take items off the squads they beat. Diamond Egg Heist puts up to six three-player teams on one map, 18 players in total. How the PvP side will actually be structured is not settled. It has been described as teams racing to collect eggs, as a PvP-only mode for teams of three, as two teams holding an objective, and as six teams of three fighting over a single objective.
The PvE game is what you get today. The closed beta was PvE as well, with AI-controlled enemies as the only opposition. Separately, a PvE-only cooperative extraction run is offered as Team Mode.
Eggs, the boat and how extraction works
Your goal is to explore the Lost Sanctum and find an egg, picking up loot as you go. The egg comes from a nest, and taking it is the easy part. You then carry it back to the boat on the beach, and delivering it there is what opens up safe evacuation.
The walk back to the escape boat is the vulnerable part of the run. When you get there, you can extract on your own without waiting for your team, provided you have completed one personal objective. That means one of two things: you personally submit one Aniimo Egg, or you personally collect a set number of Eggshell Coins. The coin amount is not published. The February 4 update cut it significantly.
Nothing counts until you are out. Your eggs and loot are only granted once you have evacuated to the Egg Port.

What a death costs you
The risk is what gives Egg Heist its tension. If you faint, die or fail to extract, you permanently lose your entire backpack and everything in it. You also lose any equipped Heist gear that protection items don't cover. That applies in every mode, Chaos included. That is why survival is the top priority in every run. An egg you don't bring home is worth nothing.
New players get a cushion. When the mode unlocks, you start under beginner protection. It is active at lower ranks and covers your first three matches. While it lasts, a death uses one charge of protection and you keep your backpack and loot.
Watch your weight as well. The carry cap is 72 kg, and from 73 kg you are immobilized. Being stuck in place on the trip to the boat is a bad way to lose everything you just picked up.
Difficulty modes and who to bring
Egg Heist has several difficulty modes: Normal, Hard, Nightmare and Chaos. Which ones you can pick depends on your ranking, which belongs to the mode's rank and reward system.
You can play the PvE mode solo or as a two-player co-op team, and matchmaking works both alone and as a group. You can fill a party with random players or form a team with friends. Solo players can finish both Normal and Hard.
A group is still the better choice. Duo and trio runs don't lose everything to one death, and keeping the party together lowers the risk of dying at all. Don't split off unless you are doing challenges. Nightmare challenges are very hard, and a team that actually cooperates gives you a much better chance at their rewards.

The boss bomb and other survival notes
The main boss is the thing most likely to end your run. Its lingering bomb leaves an explosion zone on the floor, and you cannot out-heal the fire ticks. It is the main cause of player deaths. Don't stand in it and expect healing to save you.
Stamina is the other thing to watch. Irisalis can dash with her E skill even when you have no stamina left, which helps when you run low in Egg Heist.
Where to start
Treat Egg Heist as a survival mode where eggs are the prize. Use your three protected matches to learn the route to the boat. Stay under 72 kg and keep out of the boss's floor fire. Play in a group when you can, because the PvE mode is the only Egg Heist you can play right now.
