Scorchhowl Thunderstorm Form: Spawns, Skills and DPS Build
Thunderstorm Scorchhowl gains Lightning attacks the Fire form lacks; Prismana stays pure Fire. Plus where to catch it and the Fire Kick build that adds 20% damage.

The short version
- Thunderstorm Scorchhowl is a Fire/Lightning form that appears in the wild during thunderstorm weather, and it can use Lightning attacks the base Fire form cannot.
- Prismana Scorchhowl does not gain a second element; it stays pure Fire, so it is not a shortcut to Lightning attacks.
- Scorchhowl and its Prismana form can both be found and caught in Beastfang Ridge.
- The recommended setup is Fire Kick plus Burnbreaker. A successful dodge with Fire Kick raises Scorchhowl's damage by 20% for 20 seconds.
- Scorching Flame gives a 25% damage bonus when you attack with an elemental advantage, so Scorchhowl rewards picking fights it is favoured in.
Scorchhowl is a Fire-element DPS creature, and its kit is built around aggressive fire damage. The base form is simple to read. The complications are its variants: a Thunderstorm Form that picks up a second element, and a Prismana form that does not.
This guide covers what Thunderstorm Scorchhowl actually changes, how Prismana Scorchhowl differs, where to catch them, and how to set up the kit so the damage bonuses stack in your favour.

Thunderstorm Scorchhowl: what the storm form changes
Scorchhowl has a Thunderstorm Form, a Fire/Lightning variant with lightning-based attacks. It keeps Fire and adds Lightning alongside it, which opens up Lightning attacks the base Fire form has no access to at all.
You find it by weather rather than by place. This form appears in the wild during thunderstorm weather, so a clear day will not turn one up. How weather spawns work in general is covered in our guide to wild habitat tracking and weather forms; for Scorchhowl, the short version is to go looking when the storm rolls in.
One thing to plan around: Scorchhowl's Lightning and Earth skills each have a 15-second cooldown. The extra element gives you more options, but those options are not spammable, so treat them as openers and finishers rather than your main rotation.

Prismana Scorchhowl and where to catch it
Prismana Scorchhowl is the variant people most often assume does more than it does. It retains its pure Fire element and does not gain an additional element. If you want Lightning attacks, the Thunderstorm Form is the one you need; Prismana is still a Fire creature through and through. The wider rules on dual typing and form variants have their own article on this site.
Both the standard Scorchhowl and its Prismana form can be found and caught in the Beastfang Ridge region. That makes Beastfang Ridge the place to start whichever version you are after, and the place to return to once the weather turns for the Thunderstorm Form.
The Fire DPS kit
Scorchhowl occupies the DPS role, and everything in its kit points the same way: hit hard with fire. It deals increased damage against enemies weak to Fire, and its Scorching Flame ability grants a 25% damage bonus when it attacks with an elemental advantage. Put together, those mean matchups matter a great deal. Against the right target Scorchhowl is doing its job; against the wrong one you are throwing away the bonuses that make it worth bringing.
Its ultimate ability is Falling Star.
Scorchhowl also learns Fire Bolt, which it shares with Flameruff. Fire Bolt is a ranged fireball that ignites flammable objects in the world, and it is commonly used to reach chests you could not otherwise get to. That makes Scorchhowl useful outside combat as well as in it.
Recommended build: Fire Kick and Burnbreaker
The recommended skill setup for Scorchhowl uses Fire Kick and Burnbreaker, and the two do different jobs.
Fire Kick is the damage engine. A successful dodge with Fire Kick increases Scorchhowl's damage by 20% for 20 seconds. That is a long window, so the aim is to land the dodge early in a fight and spend the buff on your heaviest hits. Scorchhowl has a built-in dodge on one of its abilities, and its jump also works as an evasive dodge with invulnerability frames, so you have more than one way to stay out of trouble while you line things up.
Burnbreaker is a chargeable fist attack. The catch is its cost: it consumes more EP the longer you charge it. Charge it fully when the Fire Kick buff is running and the target is weak to Fire, and hold back when EP is low. A half charge you can afford beats a full charge that leaves you empty.
If you are running the Thunderstorm Form, slot its Lightning attacks in around this core rather than replacing it, keeping the 15-second cooldown in mind.

Where to start
Catch Scorchhowl or its Prismana form in Beastfang Ridge, and wait for thunderstorm weather if you want the Fire/Lightning Thunderstorm Form. Don't pick Prismana expecting a second element, because it stays pure Fire. In combat, run Fire Kick and Burnbreaker, land the Fire Kick dodge for the 20% buff, and pick fights where Scorchhowl has the elemental advantage.
