Thornblade, Pawney and Scorchhowl: forms and combat kits
Thornblade's Thunderstorm form is Grass and Electric, while Thunderstorm Scorchhowl adds Lightning to Fire. Pawney stays pure Dark and hits hardest on broken targets.
The short version
- Thornblade has four forms (Basic, Prismana, Towerwood and Thunderstorm), and the Thunderstorm form is Grass and Electric type.
- Thunderstorm Scorchhowl adds Lightning alongside Fire and gets Lightning attacks that the base Fire form cannot use.
- Prismana Scorchhowl and Prismana Pawney both keep their single element; neither gains a second type, and Prismana Pawney has no exclusive typing or skill.
- Pawney deals up to 30% bonus damage to broken or crowd-controlled enemies, and its ultimate also hits broken enemies harder, so it works best after something else has broken the target.
- Scorchhowl and its Prismana form are caught in Beastfang Ridge, while Pawney comes from the Warrior quest line.
Thornblade, Scorchhowl and Pawney sit together here for one reason: each has a form question that changes what you are actually fielding. Two of them have a Thunderstorm form that bolts a second element onto a single-type base. The third has a Prismana form that changes nothing about its typing at all.
If you came for Thornblade, the useful fact is short. Its Thunderstorm form is the one that gives it a second element. Scorchhowl follows the same pattern with Lightning, and has more forms than either of the others. Pawney is the odd one out: a pure Dark damage dealer whose whole kit is built around hitting enemies that are already broken or locked down.
Thornblade's four forms and the Thunderstorm one

Thornblade has four listed forms: Basic, Prismana, Towerwood and Thunderstorm. Of those, the Thunderstorm form is the one that changes its typing. It is Grass and Electric, so it carries an Electric element on top of the Grass identity the rest of the line is built around.
That makes Thunderstorm Thornblade the form to look for if you want Thornblade to cover more than one element. The other three forms are the ones you will compare it against, and the Towerwood form is the regional one in the set.
Thunderstorm Scorchhowl and its other forms

Standard Scorchhowl is a Fire-element Aniimo. Its Thunderstorm Form is a Fire/Lightning variant: it adds the Lightning element alongside Fire and gives Scorchhowl access to Lightning attacks, which the base Fire form does not have. If you want Scorchhowl with a second attacking element, this is the only form that gets you one.
The Prismana form will not do it. Prismana Scorchhowl keeps its pure Fire element and gains nothing extra. So between the two forms people chase most, Thunderstorm is the one that changes how Scorchhowl fights, and Prismana is the one that does not.
Scorchhowl has more forms than that pair. The full spread is a basic form, two Homeland forms (Highland and Mountain Wood), a Prism Manor form and a storm Weather form. Storm variants are not unique to it either. Coraliz, a Lumen-stage Aniimo, has an exclusive storm variant that appears during rainstorms.

Scorchhowl's fire kit and where to catch it
Scorchhowl and Flameruff both learn Fire Bolt, a ranged fireball skill that ignites flammable objects in the world. That matters outside combat as much as in it: Fire Bolt is the common way to reach chests that are otherwise inaccessible, so a Scorchhowl in your team doubles as a key.
Fire Kick is a timing skill. Land it right as an enemy attacks and it deals 120% bonus damage, so it rewards watching the enemy rather than pressing it on cooldown.
Scorchhowl and its Prismana form can both be found and caught in the Beastfang Ridge region.

Pawney: Dark damage that punishes broken targets

Pawney is a single-element Dark Aniimo built for damage. It pulls normal enemies toward its location, and part of its attack combo stuns. Both of those set up the thing its trait cares about: Pawney deals up to 30% bonus damage against enemies that are broken or under crowd control.
Its ultimate leans the same way and deals increased damage to broken enemies. The pattern is consistent across the kit. Pawney is at its best finishing what something else, or its own pull and stun, has already started. Against a fresh, unbroken target it is simply a Dark damage dealer.
Its base attack is 128, the highest of the six free Prismana options, though the figure also appears as 125; which number is current is not settled.

Getting Pawney, and what its Prismana form changes
Pawney comes from the Warrior quest line. That line is also required for Inferlupa and branches into a separate path for each; the Inferlupa branch concerns the secret of Beast Fang Ridge.
Pawney has a Prismana form, and it is one of the free Prismana choices. It changes less than you might hope. Prismana Pawney keeps the pure Dark typing of its standard form, gains no secondary element, and has no exclusive typing or exclusive skill. If you are weighing it as your free Prismana pick, the choice is covered in our Prismana Pact guide. For comparison, Blazen can be obtained in Prismana form in the Blitzwood region.
Where to start
If you want Thornblade or Scorchhowl to cover a second element, go after the Thunderstorm forms, because Prismana keeps both Scorchhowl and Pawney on a single type. Play Pawney as a finisher: pull, stun or break first, then cash in the bonus damage.
