Guides › Egg Heist backpack: inventory slots, weight and what to carry
Do you lose items in the safe when you die in Egg Heist?
Items stored in the Egg Heist safe are kept when the player or the whole team faints, so essential items should go there.
The safe is the only part of your load that survives a bad run, because the backpack does not. Fainting, dying or failing to extract, Chaos mode included, costs you the entire backpack and everything in it. Any Heist gear you have equipped goes with it unless protection items cover it.
That gives the safe a clear job. It doesn't matter whether you go down alone or the whole team wipes: whatever you put in the safe on the eggboat is still there afterwards. Put anything you cannot afford to lose there, not in the backpack.
## Protecting what the safe does not cover
Equipped gear is a separate problem. Protective units are bought with Eggshell coins, the same currency that pays for the talent tree, attack amplifiers and expanded backpacks. Gear left without protection is lost with the backpack when a run fails.
A clean extraction does not finish the job either. Loot you bring out stays in the backpack after the heist, and you have to move it to your inventory yourself.
