How do you get and use Legendary Tokens?
Legendary Tokens are earned naturally through regular gameplay, including open-world exploration, catching and main story progression, and are used to craft a personal Legendary Aniipod, which makes the legendary encounter available on the map so players can bond with a legendary Aniimo.
Defeating the creature in its scripted battle guarantees a successful catch.
In the closed beta, legendary acquisitions operated through a luck-based gacha system that consumed currency and relied on pity mechanics. The developers removed that model for the full release. You no longer spend resources on pull rates or risk failing a capture roll in the wild.
The catch is that you must win the fight. Gathering all required tokens or shards unlocks entry into the one-time narrative boss encounter. You engage the legendary Aniimo, reduce its health, and defeat it in battle. Only then do you throw your crafted Legendary Aniipod to seal the bond.
Not settled: The progression order is not settled yet. The exclusive story sequence is described both as the requirement to unlock a legendary Anipod and as an encounter triggered on the map after crafting one.
