How does the break gauge work?
Combat features a break gauge, or stun bar, on enemies that can be depleted to stagger them and make them vulnerable.
The break gauge appears as a gray bar positioned directly below an enemy's red health bar. Normal attacks and abilities chip away at this meter alongside posture and shields.
Break-role Aniimo specialize in draining this gauge to disrupt targets and break their guard. Bringing a dedicated break creature like Magmarex accelerates how quickly that meter drops. Enemies under a control state are also easier to break using skills. Grappling an enemy pulls the target toward you and applies a control state, making it an effective way to soften up the gauge.
Stagger effects
Emptying the bar inflicts a staggered state that lowers the target's defenses. Broken targets take significantly increased damage, with bosses taking 250% damage while their break meter is depleted.
This vulnerable window also gives you time to execute abilities with long wind-up delays. Characters and Aniimo can charge and fire ultimate abilities during fights, but most ultimates have an activation delay that leaves you exposed. Some Aniimo also use charge attacks that must be held down to build up damage. Emptying the break gauge creates the opening needed to land those attacks safely.
