Guides › Break stats and posture stagger mechanics in Aniimo
How does the break mechanic work?
Combat includes a posture and break gauge mechanic in which break-specialized Aniimo deplete enemy shields and gauges to stagger, break, and stun targets.
An enemy's break bar appears as a gray bar beneath their red health bar.
Depleting this meter removes the target's defensive stance and inflicts a temporary stun. Stunned enemies take significantly increased damage until the break meter regenerates, and bosses in this state take 250% damage. This stagger window gives DPS roles their primary opening to amplify damage and lets the party land an Ultimate attack.
Capturing wild Aniimo
Breaking targets also matters when expanding your roster. Wild Aniimo that are difficult to catch generally need to be weakened in battle before a capture attempt has a realistic chance of succeeding. Damaging a wild creature or depleting its break gauge increases capture success. Inflicting a break on an Aniimo raises that capture success rate above 90 percent.
Break stats and skills
Specific skills and creature stats govern how quickly posture breaks. The Pathfinder skill Mega Mallet deals heavy break damage, wearing down the armor-like gauge until the target staggers. Base stats also vary by species. Skippy has a base break stat of 50, while Budclaw has a base break stat of 84.
An Aniimo's personality determines its stat growth and distribution. Each letter of a personality type grants a small bonus to combat attributes, which include attack, shield break speed, maximum HP, and defense.
