Guides › Egg Heist loot: chests, item quality and selling
How many locked rooms are in an Egg Heist map?
Each Egg Heist map has two locked rooms whose doors require a blue key.
The locked rooms are where the eggs are, and in Chaos almost nothing lies in the open.
Egg nests sit at fixed spawn positions inside the sanctum ruins, and only in certain room types, such as large rooms and the locked key rooms. Each position only has a chance of holding an egg, and higher-chance positions are more likely to have one. Opening a locked room does not guarantee an egg. In a Chaos run, eggs turn up almost only in the locked key rooms, so going without a blue key there means coming out with almost nothing.
The number of eggs in a run is not settled. It has been given as up to three, as one to three, and as usually one with sometimes two. Some runs have no findable eggs at all.
Getting a blue key
You can bring a blue key in from your inventory, or buy one before the run from the Egg Heist vendor's shop or the black market dealer. Inside the dungeon, an NPC trader near the portal or side entrance sells them, and they also drop from loot boxes. Buying one before you go in saves you from relying on a lucky drop.
Finding the two rooms fast
Egg Heist has seven maps, used across modes including Nightmare and Chaos. You can tell which one you are on as soon as you load in, without entering the blue door, from where the blue door sits relative to the orange and yellow doors. Community map tools, including the Lost Sanctum Maps section of Aniimo Tools, show each layout with its egg and key positions. With the map known, you can plan a direct route to the keys, eggs and chests instead of wandering.
