Egg Heist eggs: how many spawn, where, and who gets them

The egg count per run is not fixed, and some runs have none. Learn which rooms to check first and how to make sure the whole squad gets the eggs when you extract.

The short version

  1. Egg Heist has no fixed egg count: runs hold one, sometimes two, possibly up to three, and some runs have no findable eggs at all.
  2. Eggs only spawn at fixed nest positions in specific room types, such as large rooms and the locked key rooms, and each position only has a chance of holding one.
  3. In a Chaos run almost no eggs lie in the open, so the two blue key locked rooms are essentially the only place to find them.
  4. Whoever twines with the Giant Darkler Egg becomes the egg and loses all combat abilities, so the rest of the squad has to escort them to the boat while other teams fight you for it.
  5. Eggs in the team pool go to every squad member's mailbox on a safe extraction; if the evacuation fails, each player keeps only the eggs they collected personally.

Egg Heist (also called Operation: Egg Heist, or Diamond Egg Heist) is a raid where teams go into the sanctum ruins, dig rare eggs out of nests, and try to get them back to a boat on the beach. Yes, it is PvP: you are competing against other teams for the same eggs, and you will be fighting other players while you do it.

The questions that matter are simple. How many eggs are in a run, where do they spawn, and who actually ends up with them once you get out. The answers are less tidy than you might hope, especially the first one.

How many eggs are in Egg Heist

There is no fixed number, and the exact range is not settled. A run is described as holding at least one egg with some runs holding two, as holding up to three, and as holding one to three. On top of that, some runs contain no findable eggs at all.

The practical reading: plan for one, be pleased by two, and treat three as the top end rather than the norm. Do not assume a run is guaranteed to pay out. Some will not, however well you search.

Where eggs spawn: nests, large rooms and key rooms

Eggs sit in nests at fixed spawn positions inside the sanctum ruins. Those positions only exist in specific room types, such as large rooms and locked key rooms, so most of the map is not worth searching for eggs.

A fixed position is not a guaranteed egg. Each one only has a chance of holding an egg, and some positions have a higher chance than others, so the higher-chance spots are the ones that are more likely to pay off. That is why learning the positions matters more than sweeping every room.

Each Egg Heist map has two locked rooms whose doors need a blue key. In a Chaos run these rooms become the whole game: almost no eggs lie in the open, so they are found essentially only in the locked key rooms. Getting a key is the egg hunt on Chaos.

It also helps to find the blue main door early. Going through it reveals which map layout the dungeon is using, which tells you where the rooms you care about are.

Dungeon eggs are easy to tell apart once you are in the right room. They have a vivid, distinct colour and sheen that standard eggs do not, and you can spot them from a distance. The dungeons also contain loot chests alongside the eggs; those have their own article, so this one sticks to eggs.

Locked blue key rooms per map

Every Egg Heist map has two locked rooms that need a blue key, and in a Chaos run those rooms are essentially the only place eggs are found.

Carrying the egg: twining and the escort

You do not pick an egg up in the normal sense. You twine with it, which physically transforms you into the egg. That is how you collect it, carry it and roll it to the extraction boat, travelling inside it the whole way.

The catch is what you give up. The player who twines with the objective Giant Darkler Egg loses all combat abilities. You can jump and you can roll or dash, and that is it until the team extracts. With other teams in the same ruins trying to take the eggs, the rest of your squad has to escort and protect the carrier. A carrier left alone is a carrier who cannot fight back.

The destination is the boat on the beach. Carry the egg out of the dungeon, deposit it at the boat, and escaping on the egg boat ends the raid.

Who gets the eggs after extraction

Eggs submitted to the team pool are shared with every member of the squad, provided the extraction is safe. They do not appear in your inventory straight away. They arrive in each member's in-game mailbox after the match, and you have to collect them from there.

A failed evacuation changes that. If the team does not get out safely, each player keeps only the eggs they collected personally, and the shared pool is not handed out. So the escort is not just about one carrier: it decides whether the whole squad gets paid or only the people who happened to hold something.

What Egg Heist eggs hatch into

Egg Heist rewards a broad selection of special eggs, and the two that draw people back are Prismana and Umbral (Darkler) eggs. Competing teams extract them, and they are awarded on extraction.

This makes Egg Heist the place to farm Umbral eggs. In the beta it was the only place to get them, and rewards on Normal difficulty can include an Umbral egg, so you do not have to be on the hardest setting to have a shot. Prismana eggs are farmable too, with three Prismana egg rewards to work toward.

What comes out is the reason to bother. These eggs hatch into usable regular, Umbral or Prismana Aniimo from any region. That includes fully evolved forms, fully evolved Umbrals among them, and forms you cannot obtain anywhere else in the game.

Where to start

Go in expecting one egg and no guarantees. Find the blue main door to learn the layout, check the large rooms and the two blue key rooms (only the key rooms on Chaos), and have the whole squad cover whoever becomes the egg. Get to the boat safely so the team pool pays out, then collect your eggs from the mailbox.
