What do Tumbler Aniipods do?
Tumbler Aniipods, also called Tumbler Pods or Tumblers, are capture items that catch multiple Aniimo at once in an area of effect, making them well suited to wild surges.
One throw can hold up to 10 Aniimo during group events, so the target is a cluster, never a lone creature. You will also see it called a spirit cloud. Throw it into the thickest part of a group and everything inside the area is rolled for capture together.
Stun the cluster first. Depleting each target's Break gauge before the throw raises the capture chance, and it matters more here because one bad throw misses a whole group. Tumblers carry a base 2x catch multiplier, which climbs to 6x during gather events. That is where they earn their place.
Away from groups, a Tumbler is the wrong tool. Aniipods come in tiers, and higher tiers carry higher base capture rates. Tumblers sit with the specialised models that give up raw catch power for a utility effect. For a single difficult capture, throw a stronger standard pod.
Using them in a Wild Surge
Nurturing a bloom with Vein Essence starts a Wild Surge, which pulls a circle of about 20 local wild Aniimo around the spot. That ring of clustered targets is what Tumblers are built for. Those Aniimo have to be caught. Defeating them adds no Vein Essence and no progress toward the zone's Prismana, and catching every target in the surge is what releases Prismatic Energy at the zone's flower.
Surges also have a chance to spawn rare Umbra Aniimo. Like any catch, a Tumbler catch can roll a Lucky or a rarer Super Lucky result, and Super Lucky strikes are one source of Sparkling Crystals.
Not settled: How the Tumbler's 2x and 6x multipliers stack against the base capture rate of a higher-tier pod is not settled, so it is unclear exactly when a Tumbler outperforms a strong standard pod on a small group.
