Celestis: Locations, Traversal and Combat Kit
Celestis evolves into Stellarys at level 18, but only after you beat an Alpha Stellarys and spend a Night Stone. Where to catch it, and what it does.
The short version
- Celestis turns up early, in Nimbus Fields, the starting forest and the Forest of Falling Stars.
- Celestis evolves into Stellarys at Aniimo level 18, but only once you have defeated an Alpha Stellarys, and the evolution spends a Night Stone.
- Celestis can both climb walls and fly or glide, giving you level one climbing and flying traversal from one Aniimo.
- In combat Celestis is a ranged dark-element magic DPS with a base attack of 106, and its Shooting Stars skill lets you pressure enemies from a safe distance.
- Observing Celestis unlocks the Stargazer badge.
Celestis is one of the first Aniimo worth going out of your way for. It turns up early, it covers two kinds of traversal at once, and it fights from range. You will also see its name written as Celestice. It is the same creature.
This guide covers where to find it, how the Celestis evolution into Stellarys works, what it does for getting around the map, and what it brings to a fight.

Where to find Celestis

You do not have to travel far. Celestis can be encountered early in the game, in areas such as Nimbus Fields, the starting forest and the Forest of Falling Stars. If you are still in the opening regions, you are already in the right places.
It is worth stopping to look at one properly when you find it. Observing Celestis unlocks the Stargazer badge, so a moment spent watching it before you throw anything pays out on its own.
Celestis evolution: Stellarys at level 18

Celestis is the Lumin-stage form of its line. Its Nova-stage form is Stellarys, and getting there takes three things, not one.
First, your Celestis has to reach Aniimo level 18. Second, the evolution has to be unlocked, and the way to unlock it is to defeat an Alpha Stellarys. Third, the evolution itself spends a Night Stone.
The catch is the order. Hitting level 18 on its own does nothing if you have not beaten the Alpha yet, so it makes sense to plan the Alpha fight and have a Night Stone in hand as your Celestis gets close to the level.

Climbing and gliding: what Celestis does for traversal
Most of the reason to carry Celestis around early is movement. It can climb walls, and it can fly or glide. That combination is the point: you get two ways of dealing with terrain from a single Aniimo.
Both abilities come at level one. Celestis provides level one climbing and level one flying traversal, which is enough to open up walls and drops in the early regions where you are likely to catch it.
Celestis skills and combat role
In a fight, Celestis is a ranged magic DPS Aniimo, and its element is dark. Its base attack stat is 106.
Its signature tool is Shooting Stars, a combat skill that shoots stars at a target to deal damage. Because it works from range, Shooting Stars lets you pressure enemies safely rather than trading hits up close. That is the whole shape of the kit: stay back, keep damage going, and let something else take the front.
Baby Celestis and the web event
There were two ways to meet Celestis outside the wild. Pre-order accessories differ by console: PlayStation grants a baby Celestis, while Xbox grants a baby Skybones instead.
Celestis was also one of the five Aniimo you could hatch in the pre-launch "Time to Aniimo!" web event, alongside Susuta, Fentuft, Nimbi and Emberpup. Each came in a regular and a Sparkling form. Every regular form had a 14% hatch rate and every Sparkling form a 6% hatch rate, so a Sparkling Celestis was the rarer pull. Both the pre-order packs and the event have their own full article on this site.

Where to start
Catch a Celestis in the early regions and use it for climbing and gliding right away. Keep it on the team as a ranged dark damage dealer built around Shooting Stars. Then, before it reaches level 18, beat an Alpha Stellarys and have a Night Stone ready so it can become Stellarys.
