Nimbus Fields: The First Region
Everything worth catching in the starting region, what the weather changes, and the one creature that raises how high you can get.
The short version
- Emberpup spawns in Nimbus Fields right after you start, and it can be farmed there
- Nimbi spawns here and carries Puff Up, which gives you extra vertical traversal height
- Prismana Turbo only appears during Prismana weather, at its designated flower teleporter location
- Skippy is tied to the rainy coastal sections, not the region as a whole
- Flutternym and Emberpup both appear in later regions too, so early catches are not wasted
Nimbus Fields is the starting region, and it is more generous than a first area usually is. Several of the creatures you can catch here are not filler. Some of them are still worth having later.
It is also where the game quietly teaches you how the rest of the world works. Spawns that depend on weather, spawns that depend on standing in the right kind of terrain, a traversal ability you catch rather than unlock, and environmental puzzles sitting in the open for you to work out.
Here is what is on the ground, what gates it, and what to grab first.
The spawns that are just there
Emberpup is the one to start with. It spawns in Nimbus Fields right after you start the game, and it can be farmed there, which makes it the first creature you can get more than one of without going anywhere.
Flutternym spawns in the starting region as well. So does Nimbi, and so does Budclaw. Celestis can also be encountered here, and it is one of the creatures you can run into early in several places, including the starting forest and the Forest of Falling Stars.
That is a reasonable spread for a first region. The creatures in Aniimo's early areas cover a range of elements and abilities, so what you catch in your opening hour is not a single flavour of starter you are stuck with.

Weather and terrain decide what shows up

Not everything in Nimbus Fields is on the ground whenever you walk past. Some spawns are conditional, and the conditions are worth learning early because the same idea runs through the rest of the map.
Prismana Turbo is the clearest case. It spawns in Nimbus Fields during Prismana weather conditions, and it is acquired at its designated flower teleporter location. Wrong weather, no Prismana Turbo, no matter how long you circle the area.
Skippy is terrain and weather together. It spawns along the rainy coastal sections of Nimbus Fields, so it is a stretch of the region rather than the region itself. Budclaw works the other way around and gives you a second route: as well as Nimbus Fields, it can be encountered in the Argan Strait habitat or along the river leading toward Nimbus Fields. If it is not showing up where you are, follow the water.
Nimbi and getting higher

Nimbi is the catch with the biggest effect on how you move. It possesses Puff Up, which gives you extra vertical traversal height.
That changes what the starting region looks like. Ledges and high ground that read as scenery on your first pass are reachable once you have it, which is a good reason to catch Nimbi before you decide you have finished exploring here.
Nimbus Fields also has environmental puzzles in it, as the open world does generally. They are there to be solved rather than walked past, so if something in the landscape looks deliberately arranged, it probably is.

What the region tells you about the rest of the map

The world outside Nimbus Fields is built from multiple biomes, distinct Aniimo habitats, underground caves, and water you cross by swimming. The starting region is a small sample of that, which is why the swimming and the weather show up so early.
Your early catches carry forward too. Emberpup is not exclusive to Nimbus Fields: it also appears in Beastfang Ridge, Zephus Landbridge and the Russet Highlands. Flutternym turns up again in the Blitzwood region.
That cuts both ways. It means time spent farming Emberpup here is not wasted effort on a creature you will outgrow, and it also means you do not have to clear the region out before moving on. If you miss one, there is another place to get it.
Where to start
Catch Emberpup first because you can farm it immediately, then Nimbi for the extra height, then come back through the region with Puff Up before you leave. Save Prismana Turbo for when the weather cooperates, and check the rainy coast for Skippy rather than the fields.
