Egg Heist difficulties: Chaos Mode, Sanctum and keys

Which keys open which rooms, why the map goes dark on higher ranks, and the roughly 300,000 loot you need before Chaos Mode will let you leave.

The short version

  1. Egg Heist has four difficulties, Normal, Hard, Nightmare and Chaos, and which ones you can pick depends on your ranking.
  2. Keys only work if they are in your character inventory or backpack when the run starts; you cannot fetch them once you are inside.
  3. Hard uses silver keys on certain doors and gates, and Nightmare key rooms need a legendary key.
  4. Chaos Mode has much higher prismatic drop rates, including Prismana Aniimo eggs, but you need roughly 300,000 worth of loot before you are allowed to extract.
  5. Higher ranks and difficulties hide the labyrinth under fog of war, so you have to map the Sanctum as you go.

Aniimo's Egg Heist works the same way on every difficulty. You land on the beach beside the boats, go into the Lost Sanctum, find an egg, pick up loot along the way and carry the egg back out. What the difficulty changes is everything around that loop: which doors you can open, how much of the map you can see and what the game asks of you before it lets you leave.

This guide covers those changes, from Normal up to Chaos Mode. The basic heist loop has its own page on this site, so it gets a single section here. The rest is about keys, fog of war and the extraction rule that makes Chaos different from every other tier.

The four Egg Heist difficulties

Egg Heist has several difficulty modes: Normal, Hard, Nightmare and Chaos. You do not get to pick freely. Which modes you can select depends on your player ranking, so the top tiers open up as you rank up.

You can queue for matchmaking solo or with a group, and both Normal and Hard can be finished solo. That makes Hard the natural place to practise alone. It is also worth farming for its own sake, because Hard can reward a mysterious Prismana egg.

The main change as you climb is visibility. At higher ranks and difficulties the labyrinth map is hidden under fog of war until you explore it. On Normal you can plan a route from the map. Further up, you have to walk the Sanctum to find out what is in it, and that costs time on every run.

Egg Heist difficulties, lowest to highest
  1. NormalYou can queue solo and still finish it.
  2. HardSilver keys open some doors and gates. Can reward a mysterious Prismana egg.
  3. NightmareKey rooms need a legendary key.
  4. ChaosThe hardcore top tier. Much higher prismatic drop rates and stricter extraction.

Keys: which doors, which tier

Keys open locked doors and areas, and those rooms can hold rare loot boxes or eggs. The game also uses keys to gate Sanctum difficulty tiers and key rooms, so a key decides both where you can go and what you can reach inside a run.

Different tiers want different keys. On Hard, silver keys open certain doors and gates. Rusted keys are another type. Nightmare key rooms need a legendary key, so plan on that before you queue for Nightmare expecting the best rooms.

The rule that catches people out: a key only works if it is in your character inventory or backpack before you enter Egg Heist. If it is sitting in storage when the match starts, it does nothing for that run.

Where you buy dungeon keys is not settled. They are described both as sold inside the dungeon by an NPC trader near the portal or side entrance, and as bought before you start an Egg Heist run. Since a key has to be on you when you enter either way, the safe habit is to sort out your keys before you queue.

Chaos Mode and its extraction rule

Chaos Mode is the highest tier of Operation Egg Heist and the hardcore one. The reason to play it is the drops. Chaos has significantly higher drop rates for prismatic items, including Prismana Aniimo eggs and other prismatic collectibles.

The catch is getting out. Chaos has stricter extraction conditions than the other difficulties: you need to collect roughly 300,000 worth of loot before you can escape. On the lower tiers, getting the egg to the boat is the whole job. On Chaos, loot is part of the exit condition, so you cannot run straight from the nest to the beach. Leave time to clear rooms on the way, and remember that fog of war means you will not know in advance where the loot is.

Attack amplifiers help with the extra fighting. They increase the damage you deal in Egg Heists and give you damage amplification level one against beginner targets.

Loot needed to escape Chaos Mode

You need roughly this much loot before you can extract, so plan your route around loot and not just the egg.

The run, from beach to boat

The route is the same on every tier, and the main Operation: Egg Heist guide covers it in full. Here is the short version. The match starts on the beach by the boats. You enter the Sanctum through the blue gate. Each run has up to three egg nests in the Sanctum ruins. When you find an egg, press F to dig it out.

Then you carry the egg out of the dungeon to the boat on the beach and deposit it there. Escaping on the egg boat ends the raid. The purple gate takes you out of the Sanctum and back to the outdoor area near the boats, so that is your way out once you are carrying an egg. On Chaos, only head for it once your loot meets the extraction requirement.

An Egg Heist run in order
  1. BeachMatches start on the beach beside the boats.
  2. Blue gateGo through it to enter the Sanctum.
  3. Dig the eggPress F to unearth the egg in the Sanctum.
  4. Purple gateTakes you out of the Sanctum and back near the boats.
  5. Egg boatDrop off the egg and escape by boat to end the raid.

Where to start

Put your keys in your inventory or backpack before every queue. Practise solo on Hard, where the Prismana egg is already on offer. Move to Chaos once you can clear rooms quickly without a map, because there you need roughly 300,000 worth of loot before the boat will take you home.
