Emberpup: Locations, Hustle Traversal and Combat Kit
The first Aniimo you catch has the worst stat line you will see for a while and one of the most useful ability kits in the early game.

The short version
- Emberpup spawns in Nimbus Fields and can be farmed there right after you start, so replacements are cheap
- Base-stat total is 382 (HP 67, BREAK 40, ATK 90, M.DEF 57, P.DEF 60, REGEN 68), one of the lowest in the game
- Hustle is an active traversal ability: faster movement, paid for in stamina
- Fire Bolt ignites flammable objects and is the usual answer to a chest you cannot reach
- Emberpup's fire burns environmental vines out of your way
Emberpup is the first Aniimo players catch during Aniimo's tutorial, which means everyone has one and almost nobody thinks about it. That is a mistake in one direction and correct in another.
Its stats are genuinely poor. Its utility is not. Emberpup carries a sprint, a fire projectile, and the ability to burn things in the world that are in your way, and the Emberpup evolutionary line is recommended as an early-game priority on the strength of that.
This page covers where it spawns, what the numbers actually say, and what the kit does for you outside of combat.

Where to find Emberpup
Nimbus Fields is the short answer. Emberpup spawns there and can be farmed there right after you start the game, so if you want a second one, or a better one, you do not have to travel for it.
It is not confined to the starting area either. Emberpup can be found in Nimbus Fields, Beastfang Ridge, Zephus Landbridge and the Russet Highlands, which means you will keep running into it long after you stop needing another.
There was one more route before the game shipped. The "Time to Aniimo!" web event ran pre-launch and put Emberpup in a hatch pool with Susuta, Celestis, Fentuft and Nimbi. Each normal non-sparkling form had a 14% hatch rate. Each sparkling form had a 6% rate, so the shiny versions were the hard part of that pool.
Aniimo stats: Emberpup's base-stat line
Emberpup has one of the game's lowest base-stat totals at 382. The breakdown is HP 67, BREAK 40, ATK 90, M.DEF 57, P.DEF 60, REGEN 68.
ATK 90 is the tallest number in that line, which is what you want from a damage dealer, and BREAK 40 is the shortest. The rest sits low and flat. This is consistent with its early Lumin stage, so read the total as a starting point rather than a verdict.
It is also why the line is worth investing in early rather than later. The Emberpup evolutionary line is recommended as an early-game priority, and a creature you caught in the tutorial and can farm in the first region is a cheap thing to pour resources into.

What Emberpup does in a fight
Emberpup is a fire-element damage dealer, and a physical melee-focused one. Most of its damage wants to be close.
Its trait, Scorching Flames, increases the damage it deals to enemies that are weak to its element. That makes Emberpup a pick you bring deliberately rather than a pick you leave slotted. Against something that resists fire you are swinging with ATK 90 and nothing else; against something weak to it the trait is doing real work.
It is not purely a melee creature. Emberpup also has a direct-aim ranged fireball projectile, so there is an answer when closing the distance is the problem.
Hustle, and why you keep Emberpup twined
Hustle is Emberpup's active traversal ability. It increases movement speed while consuming stamina, which is the trade: you sprint across the map quickly and you pay for it in a bar that runs out.
Twining with specific Aniimo such as Emberpup is what enables that high-speed sprint across terrain, so the ability travels with the creature you are twined to rather than with you. Twining also matters for conversation. To understand and converse with certain wild Aniimo you need to be twined with an Aniimo of the corresponding family, and Emberpup covers the Ember family for that purpose. How twining triggers is a topic of its own and is covered elsewhere on the site.
Fire Bolt, vines and chests you cannot reach
Fire Bolt is a ranged skill that inflicts fire status. Flameruff and Scorchhowl both learn it, and in the world it does something more interesting than damage: it ignites flammable objects. That is why it is commonly used to reach otherwise inaccessible chests. If a chest is behind something that burns, the fireball is the key.
Emberpup's own fire ability handles the other common obstacle. It burns down environmental vines, which is the difference between taking the long way around and walking straight through.
Put those together and the early game changes shape. Between Hustle for distance and fire for obstacles, Emberpup is doing more for your exploration than its stat line suggests it should.
Where to start
Keep the tutorial Emberpup, farm a spare in Nimbus Fields if you want a better one, and treat the line as an early investment. You are paying for the traversal and the fire utility, not for the 382.
