Feeding Homeland workers: food, energy and petting

Every Homeland worker eats 10 a minute and stops dead when the food is gone. Here is what to feed them, and why roasted soy outlasts wheat flour.

The short version

  1. Each Homeland worker consumes food at a rate of 10 per minute, and you have to keep feeding them to hold their work efficiency.
  2. A worker whose food runs out stops working completely. It does not just slow down.
  3. Wheat flour gives 9,300 energy per item; roasted soy gives about 26,000 per unit and can also be sold.
  4. Homeland Aniimo can fall sick or become injured, and they show moods such as happiness, frustration, tiredness and sadness.
  5. You can pet your Homeland Aniimo daily, and petting one that asks for it before its timer runs out earns Bud Tickets.

Any Aniimo you put to work in the Homeland has to be fed. That is not optional upkeep. Workers burn through food steadily for as long as they are on the job, and the moment their supply is empty they put the tools down.

This guide covers what Homeland workers eat, how fast they go through it, which foods give the most energy, and the other side of keeping a base running: health, mood and the daily petting that pays out Bud Tickets.

How fast workers eat

Every Aniimo assigned to a Homeland task consumes food at a rate of 10 per minute. That rate is per worker, so a bigger workforce empties the pantry faster. Feeding them is what keeps their work efficiency up.

The practical upshot is that food is a running cost of the whole Homeland, not something you top up once. Plan your supply around how many Aniimo you have working, and check it whenever you add another.

10 per minute

Food eaten by each Homeland worker

Each worker eats at this rate, so keep food stocked or work efficiency drops and production stalls.

What to feed them: wheat flour and roasted soy

Two foods are known to work for house Aniimo, and they are not equal.

Wheat flour provides 9,300 energy per item. It is a simple, early option and does the job.

Roasted soy provides about 26,000 energy per unit, which is a lot more per item than flour. It also has sell value, so it is a food you can either put in front of your workers or turn into income. That makes it the better staple once you can make it, with the trade-off that every unit you feed is one you did not sell. Which processed goods are worth selling instead is covered in our Homeland recipes and processing chains guide.

Wheat flour or roasted soy

Wheat flour

  • Can be fed to house Aniimo
  • 9,300 energy per item

Roasted soy

  • About 26,000 energy per unit
  • Also has sell value

When the food runs out

A worker without food stops working completely. There is no reduced output mode to fall back on: production at that station stalls until you restock. If a chain of tasks suddenly goes quiet, an empty food supply is the first thing to check. The full list of reasons Homeland production stops, including seeds, is in our guide to why Homeland production stops.

Health and mood

Food is not the only thing to watch. Aniimo in the Homeland can fall sick or become injured, so a worker that looks off may need more than a meal.

They also show their feelings. Aniimo display visible emotions such as happiness, frustration, tiredness and sadness, and they do it at home as well as in the field. Those moods are your quickest read on how your workforce is doing, so it is worth glancing at them when you pass through.

Petting and Bud Tickets

You can pet and interact directly with the Aniimo kept at your Homeland, and petting can be done daily. Some of them will ask for it. Petting a Homeland Aniimo that requests it before its timer runs out awards Bud Tickets, so a quick lap of the base each day is worth the time. Our guide to earning Bud Tickets in the Homeland covers the rest of that currency.

Where to start

Keep a stock of roasted soy for your workers if you can make it, and use wheat flour when you can't. Restock before the supply hits zero, because an unfed worker produces nothing. Check moods and health as you pass, and pet anyone who asks for it each day so you collect the Bud Tickets.
