How Egg Twining Works in Aniimo

Twining does not put an egg in your backpack. It turns you into the egg. Here is what that changes about how you move, how you bank a haul, and what a death costs you in Operation: Egg Heist.

The short version

  1. Twining with an egg physically transforms you into that egg.
  2. Jumping and dashing work in egg form. The full moveset is not settled yet.
  3. An egg only counts once you interact with the boat and get it evacuated.
  4. Dying or fainting on a run costs your carried items, your backpack and your equipped gear.
  5. Tough Egg is a Common talent worth +10% damage reduction while you are twined with an Egg, and both ranks list that same value.
  6. Some wild eggs sit in nests you can only reach by Twining with an Aniimo that flies, climbs or swims.

Egg Heist asks you to pick up eggs and get them out. Twining is how you carry them, and it is worth understanding before your first run, because it is not an inventory slot. You become the egg you are carrying.

That single mechanic drives most of what makes the mode tense. It changes how you move, it changes what a fight looks like, and it means the thing you are protecting is you.

Eggs you collect hatch into usable Aniimo, which is the subject of the incubation guide rather than this one. This page is about the run itself.

Twining with an egg makes you the egg

When you twine with an egg, your character physically transforms into it. You are not hauling a prop around. You are the object, and every rule about how you move now applies to an egg rather than to a person.

What survives the change is less than you might expect and more than nothing. You can jump, and you can dash. Beyond those two, the full set of moves available in egg form is not settled, so treat anything fancier as something to test in a run you can afford to lose. Plan routes around jumping and dashing and you will not be caught out.

Nothing counts until the boat

Collecting an egg does not bank it. Carried eggs have to be submitted by interacting with the boat, and only then are they evacuated. Until that happens, everything you are carrying is still in play.

That is the shape of the whole mode: a trip out, a trip back, and a single point where the trip pays off. Operation Egg Heist also features additional egg varieties, so a haul is not necessarily uniform, and the walk home is the same walk whatever you picked up. Get to the boat, interact, and the run is banked.

What going down costs you

Dying or fainting during an Egg Heist run does not just drop the eggs. You lose carried items, your backpack, and your equipped gear. The cargo and the kit you brought to fetch it go together, which is why a greedy extra detour is a worse idea here than in most modes.

Tough Egg is the talent that speaks directly to this. It is a Common-rarity talent in Operation: Egg Heist, and it grants +10% damage reduction while you are twined with an Egg. Note where that applies: while twined, which is exactly the stretch of the run when you have the most to lose. It comes in two ranks, Tough Egg I and Tough Egg II, and both are listed at that same value, so taking the second rank does not raise the printed figure.

+10%

Tough Egg damage reduction while twined

Going down costs you your carried items, backpack and equipped gear, so a Common talent that cuts incoming damage while you are the egg is worth a slot.

Nests that need a different Aniimo

Not every egg is sitting somewhere you can walk to. Some wild eggs sit in nests that can only be reached by Twining with an Aniimo whose pathfinding ability suits the obstacle in the way: flight, climbing or swimming, depending on what is blocking you.

So Twining does two jobs. Twining with an egg is how you carry it. Twining with the right Aniimo is how you get to it in the first place. A nest across water and a nest up a cliff face are different problems, and the answer to both is bringing the creature that solves it.

Where to start

Learn the three things that decide a run: Twining turns you into the egg, the boat is the only thing that banks it, and going down strips your gear as well as your cargo. Tough Egg softens the hits while you are twined, and the rest is route knowledge. For what happens to the eggs after you get them home, read the incubation guide.
