How to get Darklers in Aniimo

Darklers and the Umbrabow form come from one place in Aniimo, and you have to go and get them out of the mailbox afterwards.

The short version

  1. Darklers and the Umbrabow form are exclusive to Egg Heist. There is no other source.
  2. Darkler variant eggs come out of the activity itself; an Umbrabow egg can be exchanged for with accumulated currency.
  3. Eggs you extract are delivered to the in-game mailbox and have to be collected from there.
  4. Items and resources you extract sell for eggshell coins, and there is a sell-all interface for doing it in bulk.
  5. Backpacks cost 5,000 coins in the Egg Heist mode shop.
  6. During the beta, certain Egg Heist rewards were locked to its PvP mode.

Dark forms are the one part of the roster you cannot stumble into. Darklers and the Umbrabow form come from Egg Heist and nowhere else, so if that mode is not in your rotation, that part of your collection stays empty no matter how much else you catch.

The good news is that there are two ways in. Darkler variant eggs drop out of the activity itself, and the currency you build up there can be exchanged for an Umbrabow egg. One is luck, the other is patience.

This page is about getting the dark forms specifically. Egg Heist as a mode, its ranks and its shop are covered elsewhere on the site, so what follows only touches them where they affect what you walk away with.

Egg Heist is the only source of dark forms

Dark forms of Aniimo, Darklers and the Umbrabow form included, are obtained exclusively through Egg Heist. That is the whole answer to "where do I find one". No other activity produces them.

Within the mode there are two paths. Darkler variant eggs are obtained from the Egg Heist activity itself, so they come to you as part of running it. The Umbrabow form works differently: accumulated currency can be exchanged for an Umbrabow egg. If the variant eggs are not falling your way, the exchange is the path that rewards showing up regularly instead.

Currency, ranks and what you build up over time

Progressing through Egg Heist provides rewards over time, and the mode has seven total ranks behind that progression. Both are another article's subject, so treat them here as the frame around the exchange: the longer you play, the more currency you have to spend on that Umbrabow egg.

One caveat worth knowing if you played earlier. During the closed beta, certain Egg Heist rewards were obtainable exclusively through its PvP mode. That was the beta, and it is worth keeping in mind when you look at what a given reward is attached to rather than assuming every part of the mode feeds the same pool.

Rewards arrive as you progress, so knowing the mode tops out at seven ranks tells you how much runway is left before the grind stops paying.

Your eggs go to the mailbox, not your bag

Eggs extracted from Egg Heist are delivered to the in-game mailbox and must be collected from there. This trips up new players constantly. You finish a run, you check your inventory, and nothing is there. Go to the mailbox.

Once collected, eggs from Egg Heist hatch into usable Aniimo, so a Darkler variant egg is a creature you will actually field and not a trophy. Operation Egg Heist also features additional egg varieties, which is covered in depth in its own article.

Paying for the runs

Items and resources extracted from Egg Heist can be sold for eggshell coins, and there is a bulk sell-all interface for clearing out everything at once. Use it. The mode gives you far more to carry out than you will ever want to sort through by hand.

Coins have somewhere to go. Backpacks can be purchased from the Egg Heist mode shop for 5,000 coins. That is a straightforward loop: extract, sell in bulk, spend on the thing that lets you extract more.

It is the price to weigh against everything else your eggshell coins could buy, and coins come from selling what you extract.

Where to start

If you want a Darkler or the Umbrabow form, Egg Heist is the only route. Run it, keep selling what you pull out, and check the mailbox afterwards.
