Starter Choice Guide: Helion vs. Lunara

Two starters, the same base stats, and two completely different ways to fight. Here is what actually separates Helion and Lunara.

The short version

  1. Helion and Lunara have identical base stats across all categories, so neither pick is stronger on paper.
  2. Both are Holy-element Aniimo, the element the game also calls Light.
  3. Helion is entirely melee: close-range physical damage, a small area, high burst.
  4. Lunara is a ranged holy and magical DPS built for large area attacks and long battles.
  5. Helion builds [Solar Halo] off four basic attacks to enhance his next skill; Lunara builds damage through passive skills.
  6. Light-type Aniimo have no dedicated Support Aniimo.

The first major decision in Aniimo is choosing a starter companion Aniimo between Lunara and Helion. It looks like the kind of fork that decides your account. In raw numbers, it is not. The two have identical base stats across all categories.

So the choice is not about power. It is about range and rhythm. Helion is entirely a melee creature, specialising in close-range physical combat and striking targets in a small area with high burst potential. Lunara is a ranged holy and magical DPS, built for large area attacks and long battles.

Both are Holy-element Aniimo, the element also referred to in-game as Light. That means you are not picking elemental coverage here. You are picking how you want to spend the next fifty fights.

Helion vs Lunara: what the choice actually changes

Helion
Helion

Start with what does not change. The base stats are the same across every category, so there is no hidden stat advantage waiting for you on one side of the menu. Both creatures are Holy-element, also called Light, so both hit the same resistances and both benefit from the same element buffs.

What changes is where you stand. Helion has to be in the enemy's face, because he has no other option: he is entirely melee. Lunara fights from range with magic, and she is built for large area attacks and long battles rather than short, violent openings.

One more thing is worth knowing before you commit, and it applies to either pick. Light-type Aniimo have no dedicated Support Aniimo. That shapes how Light teams get built later, and it is not a reason to avoid Light, but you should know it now rather than at team-building time.

The two starter companions, which share identical base stats across all categories

Helion

  • Melee only, close range physical combat
  • High burst on targets in a small area
  • Four basic attacks grant Solar Halo, which enhances his next skill
  • Can stun enemies with an empowered attack

Lunara

  • Ranged holy and magical DPS
  • Built for large area attacks and long battles
  • Increases her damage through passive skills
  • Reduces enemy resistance to Holy attacks

Helion: melee burst built around Solar Halo

Helion's kit runs on a loop rather than a rotation. His Solar Grace passive skill increases combat damage and boosts his other skills. Landing four basic attacks grants [Solar Halo], a buff from that same Solar Grace trait, which enhances his next skill. Basic attacks are therefore setup, not filler. If you are mashing them without watching what comes next, you are throwing away the best part of the creature.

The skills reward that setup. Holy Storm is a spinning storm attack that damages targets while pulling them toward its centre, and it carries a 150% break multiplier. Pulling a loose group into one pile is exactly what a creature with a small strike area wants. Holy Roar is a straight roaring attack. Helion can also stun enemies with an empowered attack, which is the other reason to care about timing rather than speed.

His Ultimate is Helios' Judgment. It deals heavy damage and temporarily evolves Helion into Soleon.

Out of combat he brings Hustle, an exploration Mobility ability that increases sprint and movement speed while consuming stamina. It costs you nothing in a fight and saves you time everywhere else.

Holy element melee attacker. His Ultimate, Helios' Judgment, deals heavy damage and temporarily evolves him into Soleon.

Lunara: ranged damage that builds over a long fight

Lunara
Lunara

Lunara increases her damage through passive skills. That is the shape of the whole creature. She does not have a four-hit buff to keep alive; the growth is built in, which is why she suits long battles where the numbers have room to matter.

Her damage comes in two flavours. Lumin Bolts fires light projectiles at enemies. Lunar Eclipse pours moonlight onto a single target to deal damage, so you have an answer for the one thing that needs to die rather than the group around it. Moon-Washed restores EP, which is what keeps a ranged caster casting when a fight runs long.

She also reduces enemy resistance to Holy-element attacks, which is Light. That helps everything Light you are pointing at the same target, Helion's damage included, if you end up running both.

Holy element ranged DPS. Lunar Eclipse pours moonlight onto a single target, Lumin Bolts fires light projectiles, and Moon-Washed restores EP.

Helion or Lunara for a first run

Pick Helion if you like being on top of things. Close the gap, land four basic attacks, spend Solar Halo on the skill you actually wanted, pull the group in with Holy Storm and break it. It is a hands-on creature with a stun, a heavy Ultimate and a temporary evolution into Soleon at the end of it. Hustle makes the overworld quicker while you are at it.

Pick Lunara if you would rather hold position and let the fight come to you. Her passives raise her own damage, her EP restore keeps her going, and her Light resistance reduction makes the whole fight easier for anything Holy-element on the field.

Because the base stats match, this is a preference, not a power decision. The one thing worth being honest about: melee means taking hits, and ranged means managing distance. Choose the problem you would rather have.

Where to start

There is no wrong pick here. Helion wants you close, patient with basic attacks, and ready to cash in Solar Halo. Lunara wants range, longer fights and steady pressure. Try the one whose problem sounds like fun, because the stats will not decide it for you.
