The Pawney Line: Grappling, Break Damage and PvP
Pawney is a pure Dark physical attacker built around a grappling hook, a one second stun and break pressure, and you cannot catch one.

The short version
- Pawney cannot be caught in the wild at any stage. You evolve it from Helmut, found in the Russet Highlands in the Breezy Plains region.
- Hookshot latches onto a wall or an enemy. On an enemy it drags the target toward you and applies Controlled.
- Shadow Cut eats an enemy's break health, and the third consecutive hit of Weakening Smash stuns for 1 second.
- The Pursuit trait grants up to 30% extra damage against targets under control effects or in the BREAK state.
- Pawni's ultimate hits broken enemies harder, which is the payoff at the end of the loop.
- Prismana Pawney has no exclusive typing and no exclusive skill, so everything here applies to it too.
Most guides to a damage Aniimo start with the damage. Pawney is easier to understand from the other end: it is a control tool that happens to hit hard. The grapple, the stun and the break drain all exist to set up the same window, and the trait pays you for fighting inside it.
Pawney is a physical DPS with a base attack stat of 128. The role side of that is covered in our catch stance and combat role guide, so take it as given here and spend your attention on the kit.
One thing to settle before anything else: you will not find one in the wild.

You evolve Pawney, you never catch it
Pawney cannot be caught in the wild in Aniimo at any stage of the game. There is no spawn to hunt, no rare window, no better zone. The only route is evolution.
What you look for instead is Helmut, the Lumin stage of the line. Helmut can be found in the Russet Highlands, an area of the Breezy Plains region. Evolve that and you have your Pawney. Standard Pawney is a Dark-element Aniimo, and the line stays Dark from there on.
Hookshot closes the gap in whichever direction you need
Hookshot is Pawney's mobility skill. It stretches Pawney's arm toward the centre of the view and pulls Pawney to whatever it hits, either a wall or an enemy. Your camera is your aim, so the skill is only as good as where you are looking when you fire it.
The wall case is traversal. The enemy case is combat, and it is the more important one. Grappling an enemy pulls it toward the player and puts the enemy into the Controlled state. Pawney can pull normal enemies toward its location, which means a target standing somewhere inconvenient is a target you can move.
That matters because Controlled is not just a leash. Enemies in a controlled state are easier to break with skills. The grapple is the opening move of a damage sequence, then, not a repositioning tool you use between fights.
Aniimo break: Shadow Cut, the one second stun, and Pursuit
Shadow Cut is the Pawney line's break tool. It is used to deplete an enemy's break health, which is the bar you are chipping at from the moment the grapple lands. Pull first, then cut, because the controlled target gives way faster.
Pawney can also stun enemies with part of its attack combo. Specifically, the third consecutive hit of Weakening Smash stuns the target for 1 second. That is short, and it is meant to be. It buys you another slice of uninterrupted skill usage rather than a free rotation.
Pursuit is the trait that ties it together. It grants up to 30% extra damage against targets affected by control effects or in the BREAK state. Both halves of that condition are things Pawney creates for itself. The grapple supplies the control, Shadow Cut supplies the break, and the trait pays out either way. Pawni's ultimate ability then deals increased damage to broken enemies, so the sequence has a clear end point: control, drain, break, ultimate.

Where the loop earns its keep
Pawney is effective in Egg Heist, PvP, and Alpha boss dungeon battles. Those three look unrelated until you notice what they share: targets that do not stand still and do not politely take damage.
An Alpha boss has break health worth attacking, so Shadow Cut and the ultimate have something real to work on. In PvP and Egg Heist, the value sits in the pull and the stun. Dragging something out of position and taking a second of its time is worth more than raw numbers when the thing you are fighting is trying to leave.
The discipline is the same in all three. Do not open with your biggest hit. Open with the grapple, because everything else in the kit is worth more once the target is controlled.
Snowfield and Prismana
Pawney has a Snowfield form, and Pawni has a Prismana form.
Prismana Pawney does not possess an exclusive typing or an exclusive skill. It retains the pure Dark typing of its standard form. In practice, nothing above changes for it. The grapple, the stun, Shadow Cut and Pursuit behave the way they behave on the standard version, so you do not need a separate plan for the form you happen to own.
Where to start
Head to the Russet Highlands, get a Helmut, evolve it. Then practise one habit: Hookshot onto the target before you commit to anything else. Every number in Pawney's kit is bigger against a controlled or broken enemy, and Pawney is the one putting them in that state.
