How to level up Aniimo: Growth Buds, Flowers and EXP
Growth Flowers give 5,000 EXP each, levelling spends upgrade resources, and a reset below level 60 refunds everything. Here is how to level without wasting any.
The short version
- Your Aniimo gain levels on their own just by taking part in exploration and combat, so the team you actually use is the team that grows.
- Growth Flowers grant 5,000 EXP each; Growth Buds are the other consumable that grants EXP directly.
- Levelling an Aniimo consumes upgrade resources, so every level you put into a creature is a spending decision.
- Resetting an Aniimo below level 60 refunds 100% of the invested resources and Star upgrade materials, which makes early levelling mistakes recoverable.
- HP, attack and defense scale with level, and fights get much harder when your team falls behind.
Levelling in Aniimo runs on two tracks. Your creatures pick up experience by doing things in the world, and you can push them further with items that grant EXP directly. Both matter, and they work best together.
The catch is that levels are not free. Raising an Aniimo eats upgrade resources, and those resources are what decide which of your creatures get strong and which stay behind. This guide covers where EXP comes from, what Growth Buds and Growth Flowers do, what levelling costs, and why an underleveled team hits a wall.
Where your Aniimo get their EXP
The simplest source is play itself. Aniimo level up automatically by participating in exploration and combat. You do not need to do anything special to bank that experience; you just need to have the creature out and involved.
The most efficient route is the obvious one. Following the main story and the recommended content is a good way to gain experience and keep progressing, because it keeps you fighting and exploring at a steady pace rather than wandering. If you are unsure what to do next, the story is rarely the wrong answer.
Growth Buds and Growth Flowers
When passive experience is not enough, you feed EXP directly. Two items do this.
Growth Buds are consumable items that grant experience points to level up an Aniimo. Growth Flowers do the same job and grant 5,000 EXP each. Both go straight into the creature you choose, which makes them the tool for catching up a newcomer to your team or pushing a favourite past a level where it was stalling.
Because they are consumed on use, treat them as a resource to aim rather than spend on whatever is in front of you. Put them into creatures you plan to keep fielding.

What levelling costs you
Levelling up an Aniimo consumes upgrade resources. That is the real cost of a level, and it is why spreading resources thinly across a large roster leaves you with many average creatures and no strong ones.
There is a safety net. Resetting or respecing an Aniimo below level 60 gives a 100% refund of the invested resources and the Star upgrade materials. If you sink resources into a creature early and change your mind, you can get them back, as long as it has not reached level 60. The resource traps around this are covered in our beginner mistakes guide.
In-game store purchases and consumables can also reduce the grind and speed up progression. They shorten the road; they do not replace walking it.

Why an underleveled team struggles
Level is not a cosmetic number. Creatures gain levels, and their stats, including HP, attack and defense, scale with level and progression. A creature a few levels behind is weaker on every one of those at once.
That is why fights become much harder when your Aniimo are underleveled. If a battle suddenly feels unfair, check your team's levels before you blame your strategy.
Wild Aniimo in the overworld have levels too, and what sets them is not settled. One version is that it follows your World Level, which also affects how difficult they are. The other is that it follows your account level at the time of capture. Either way, the wild creatures you meet scale with your own progress, so keeping your team's levels moving is what keeps those encounters manageable.
Where to start
Let exploration, combat and the main story do most of the work, then use Growth Buds and Growth Flowers to lift the creatures you actually field. Spend upgrade resources on a focused team rather than everyone. If you misjudge a pick, reset it before level 60 while the refund is still full.
