How to level up fast: XP sources, talents and map rewards

Captures, chests, story quests and map completion all pay Aniimo experience. Here's where each one comes from, and how to claim region rewards straight from the map.

The short version

  1. Every wild Aniimo you capture gives experience to the Aniimo in your active team, so catching things on the way is levelling too.
  2. Open-world chests pay out experience as experience gems, which makes them worth the detour.
  3. Region completion milestones give experience. At 40% region completion you get 500 XP and vein essences, and you claim these rewards from the map interface.
  4. Blooms and waypoints unlock fast travel and clear the fog of war, which is how you reach the rest of a region.
  5. Unlock talents early. The tree gives passive boosts to max stamina, carry weight, damage reduction and defense, attack, and speed.

Experience in Aniimo comes from several places at once. Almost everything you do in the open world adds some: catching creatures, opening chests, pushing the story along, and filling in the map.

The good news is that you don't need to grind any one of them. Follow the main story, pick up what's along the way, and claim your map rewards when they're ready, and you'll level at a steady pace. This guide goes through each source in turn, then covers how to open up the map and which talents to take early.

Captures, chests and story quests

Capturing wild Aniimo gives experience points to the Aniimo in your active team. That matters for team building. If you want a particular creature to catch up, put it in the active team before you go out catching, and every capture helps it.

Open-world chests also give experience, as experience gems. Chests are part of the exploration loop anyway, so open them when you pass them.

The steadiest source is the story. Aniimo has a story mode with a main questline and various side quests, and following the main story and the recommended content is an efficient way to gain experience and keep progressing. If you're unsure what to do next, do the next story step. It levels you and moves you forward at the same time.

Region completion rewards on the map

Each region has exploration progression rewards, and you claim them directly from the map interface. They don't arrive on their own, so check the map every so often for anything waiting.

These area completion milestones give experience. The one worth knowing is 40% region completion, which gives 500 XP and vein essences. You don't have to finish a region to get something back, because the payouts come as you hit each milestone.

500 XP

At 40% region completion

Reaching the 40% completion milestone in a region pays 500 XP plus vein essences, claimable straight from the map.

Blooms and waypoints: opening up the map

You can't fill in a region you can't see, and two things clear the fog of war: bloom branches and waypoints. Activating either one reveals sections of the world map.

A Bloom is a bloom fruit flower. The first time you interact with one, it becomes a fast-travel warp point and reveals sections of the map. After that you can click it on the map to travel straight there. Blooms link vein network locations across the world, so each one you touch makes the whole network more useful.

Teleport waypoints work the same way for travel. They sit across the map, unlock when you reach them, and from then on you can activate them from anywhere. Make a habit of touching every Bloom and waypoint you pass. It costs nothing and saves you walking back later.

Talents worth unlocking first

Levels aren't the only thing that makes you stronger. Unlocking talents early is the advice, because they improve how well you fight.

The talent tree gives passive upgrades: max stamina, carry weight, damage reduction and defense, attack, and speed. They're passive, so they work all the time without you doing anything. Taking them early means every fight and every trip across the map from then on gets the benefit.

The same idea applies to your Aniimo. Levels are only part of it. Aniimo are also made stronger through training, enchantment, resonance, awakening, carried items and runes. Once your team's levels are moving, those are the next things to look at.

Where to start

Play the main story, catch with the Aniimo you want to level in the active team, open every chest you see, and touch every Bloom and waypoint you pass. Check the map for region rewards you haven't claimed, including the 500 XP and vein essences at 40% completion. Spend your first talent unlocks early, because the passive upgrades help everything you do afterwards.
