How to Unlock Nurture and Get Vein Essence

Nurture needs a bronze badge and 30 Lumin Amber at the regional Branch. Once your free charges run out, Vein Essence pays for each attempt. Here is where to farm it.

The short version

  1. Unlocking Nurture in a region means submitting 30 Lumin Amber at that region's Branch, which takes the Branch to level 30.
  2. You also need the region's bronze capture badge, which comes from catching 40% of the Aniimo there. One version of the requirement asks for 80% instead, and that is not settled yet.
  3. Each nurture attempt uses either one free charge or one Vein Essence. Banked free charges cap at three.
  4. Depositing 30 Lumin Amber into the regional branch opens an upgrade node that adds 10 attempts to your daily nurture capacity.
  5. Vein Essence comes from catch completion milestones, the Windborne Stamp Shop (10 per week), the Weekly Value Supplies pack, the 280 Lumin Crystal seasonal gift, the Mysterious Vendor in Astra and several other activities.

Nurture is how you feed a region's Blooms. Every attempt fills the nurture bar and pulls large numbers of nearby Aniimo into the area. At Breezy Plains branches that includes Prismana Aniimo. You can't touch it at first, though. It stays locked until you have done two things in a region: caught enough of its Aniimo and fed its Branch enough Lumin Amber.

This guide covers both gates, how far the free charges go, and where to find the Vein Essence that pays for every attempt after that. If you came here searching for Aniimo Lumin, the Lumin Amber section is the one you want.

The two gates: the bronze badge and Lumin Amber

Nurture is unlocked one region at a time, and each region has two requirements.

The first is the bronze capture badge for that region. You earn it by reaching 40% catch completion in the area, which means catching multiple species there. Until you have it, you can't nurture in that region or join nurture events there. The badge also unlocks the region's branch feature. In general, catching around 40% of a zone's species is what opens that zone's Bloom and Prismana flow.

The catch is that this threshold isn't fully settled. One version of the requirement asks for at least 80% of a region's Aniimo species before you can interact with and nurture its Blooms. Plan for 40%, and be ready to keep catching if a region stays locked.

The second gate is Lumin Amber. You unlock regional nurture by gathering Lumin Amber and submitting 30 of it at the Branch, which takes the Branch to level 30. Which gate counts as the real unlock is also unsettled, because Nurture has been tied to the bronze badge alone and to the 30 Lumin Amber alone. Getting both covers you either way.

30

Lumin Amber submitted at the Branch

Unlocking nurture for a region costs 30 Lumin Amber at its Branch, so collect them before you plan to nurture there.

What Lumin Amber does at the Branch

Lumin Amber is worth spending even without Nurture. Offering it to a regional Branch restores the Branch's energy and the land around it, deepens your bond with that Branch, and grants special blessings. Restoring a Branch's energy is specifically what earns you its blessing.

There is one limit. You can only hold one active blessing at a time: Sol or Lun, never both.

Upgrading a regional Branch also raises your capture rate for Aniimo, which helps you reach the catch completion the bronze badge asks for. Upgrading the nurture nodes on branches such as Breezy Plains raises your maximum stamina. The most important node for this guide comes from depositing 30 Lumin Amber into the regional branch. It opens an upgrade that adds 10 attempts to your daily nurture capacity.

Free charges and what each attempt costs

Every nurture attempt uses one free charge or one Vein Essence. In some places the item is also called Essence of Vanity.

You get one free nurture charge a day and can nurture up to three times in a row. Free charges regenerate over time and bank up to a maximum of three. Beyond that cap, the exact free allowance is build-dependent: it has varied from one charge a day up to three a day, and the shards and charge system have their own dedicated guide on this site. After your free charges are gone, each extra attempt costs Vein Essence. Prismatic Energy Shards are also listed as a currency for extra attempts.

In practice, free charges get you started, and Vein Essence decides how often you can nurture after that.

Where to get Vein Essence

Catch completion is the source that pays you for something you are doing anyway. Area completion milestones grant experience along with Vein Essence. Reaching 40% completion in a region gives 500 XP and Vein Essence, which is the same milestone that earns the bronze badge. Completing Breezy Plains Anilog collection tiers also pays out, and the bronze tier gives one.

The Windborne Stamp Shop sells Vein Essence for stamps this season, limited to 10 per week. Its stock resets weekly and anything you don't buy that week is gone, so check it every week.

Two purchases include it. The Weekly Value Supplies pack has Glimmer, a box of coins and Vein Essence. The 280 Lumin Crystal seasonal gift has 8 Vein Essence and 300 of a secondary currency.

The Mysterious Vendor in Astra sometimes sells Vein Essence for credits. It is worth a look whenever you pass through.

Vein Essence also drops from open-world gathering, Elite Training, Nurture Branches, Holo Battle Interlinks and the battle pass, and you get some for contributing Lumin. Gathering Lumin Amber for your Branches therefore earns Vein Essence too.

10 per week

The stamp shop stock resets weekly, so any Vein Essence you do not buy that week is lost.

Where to start

Catch 40% of a region's Aniimo for the bronze badge, and save 30 Lumin Amber for the Branch. If the region still stays locked, keep catching. After that, buy the Windborne Stamp Shop's weekly Vein Essence every week and keep pushing catch completion, since the same milestones that open Nurture also pay for it.
