Lunara combat: skills, healing and Fennelun transformation

Lunara fights at range, heals herself off her own skill usage, and gets a temporary transformation on top. Here is how the kit holds together in practice.

The short version

  1. Lunara is a starter Light element DPS who deals damage with wide area-of-effect magic from a safe distance.
  2. Her trait, Lunar Power, builds stacks of Silver Moon Mark when you use skills.
  3. Spending those stacks gives her self-sustain, so long fights do not force you to break off and reset.
  4. Fennelun is a combat transformation: a temporary power boost, not a permanent evolution.
  5. Both starters are Light element DPS, so picking Lunara is a choice about how you fight, not about element coverage.

If you are still weighing Helion or Lunara, that comparison is its own guide. This page assumes the decision is made and you want to know what Lunara actually does once a fight starts.

The short version: she is a ranged magical attacker who covers ground with wide area-of-effect magic, and her trait turns skill usage into healing. That combination is why she reads as the forgiving starter.

Both starter Aniimo are Light element DPS units, so nothing about this choice changes what element you bring to a team. It changes the range you fight at and how much punishment you can absorb while you learn.

The ranged magic kit

Lunara
Lunara

Lunara is a ranged magical attacker. Her damage comes from wide area-of-effect magic, which means she is hitting groups rather than picking off one target at a time, and she is doing it from a safe distance.

That distance is the mechanical point, not a flavour note. A character who deals area damage from range spends less time inside the swing arc of whatever she is fighting, so the positioning mistakes that would end a melee approach are survivable on Lunara. You get more room to read an enemy before you have to react to it.

Lunar Power and Silver Moon Mark

Lunara's trait is Lunar Power, and it generates stacks of Silver Moon Mark every time you use skills. The resource builds off the thing you were going to do anyway. There is no separate gauge to babysit and no alternate rotation to learn before the kit works.

Consuming those stacks is where the self-sustain comes from. Healing tied to your own skill usage behaves differently from healing you carry into a fight as a consumable: the longer an engagement runs, the more skills you have used, and the more the trait has given you back.

The practical result is that extended fights stop being a problem to solve. Lunara does not need to retreat as often, which means you can hold position on a target instead of disengaging, recovering and walking back in. For a new player that loop is the difference between finishing a fight and losing the progress you made in it.

Fennelun is temporary, not an evolution

Fennelun
Fennelun

Each starter Aniimo has its own unique combat transformation form. Lunara's is Fennelun.

It is worth being clear about what that is, because the word transformation carries the wrong expectation in a lot of games. Starter transformations are a temporary combat power boost. They are not a permanent evolution, so nothing about using Fennelun locks in a form or replaces the Lunara you have been building. You turn a stronger state on for a stretch of a fight, and then you are Lunara again.

Who Lunara suits

Lunara is the starter recommended for players who are new to action RPGs, and for anyone who simply prefers ranged combat and safer positioning. The early game runs smoother on her for the same reasons the kit reads well in a single fight: you are far from the danger and you are topping yourself up as you go.

That was already true in the closed beta, where the combination of ranged combat and self-healing made her the more forgiving of the two starters to play.

Where to start

Use skills freely and let Lunar Power do the work. Silver Moon Mark builds from your normal rotation, the sustain keeps you in the fight, and Fennelun is a button for the moments that need more damage rather than a decision you have to get right.
