The Holo-Battle Simulator
The Holo-Battle Simulator is a roguelike gauntlet that pays in runes and Glimmer, and it will not let you brute-force it with a favourite team.
The short version
- Holo-Sim runs are roguelike: encounters get progressively harder, and clearing them unlocks powers.
- Harder routes pay better. The difficulty you pick is the reward dial.
- Battles award runes, which upgrade the items you carry.
- Challenges require runes already equipped and specific elemental counterplay, not an arbitrary team.
- The Experimental Amplifier grants a substantial damage boost against enemies on Normal difficulty.
- Holo-Sim is one of several Glimmer sources, and the Holo Shop rotates its stock weekly.
If you are stuck in the Holo-Battle Simulator, the problem is usually not that your creatures are too weak. It is that the mode is checking for things you have not done yet outside it.
Holo-Sim is a combat simulation built on roguelike mechanics. You run a gauntlet of encounters that get progressively harder, and clearing them unlocks powers along the way. The run builds on itself. What you start with matters, but so does what you pick up.
The payouts are worth understanding before you queue in, because they feed back into the systems that let you clear harder content later.
How a gauntlet run is shaped
Each run is a chain of encounters that scale upward. Beat one, unlock a power, carry it forward into a harder fight. That is the loop, and it means an early stumble is cheap while a late one costs you a whole run's worth of accumulated strength.
The route you choose sets the ceiling. Harder routes yield superior rewards, so the difficulty selection is really a reward dial. If you are clearing your current route comfortably, you are leaving payout on the table. If you keep dying halfway, drop a tier, bank the rewards, and come back better equipped rather than throwing yourself at the same wall.
Runes are the payout and the entry requirement
Holo-Sim battles award runes, and runes upgrade the items you carry. That is the compounding part of the mode. A run makes your gear better, and better gear makes the next run survivable at a higher difficulty.
The catch is that runes are also a prerequisite. Holo-Battle Sim challenges require runes that are already equipped. Sitting on a pile of unequipped runes does nothing for you in the gauntlet. Before a serious attempt, check that everything you have earned is actually slotted in and applied to the items you are bringing.
Bring counters, not favourites
The Sim expects specific elemental counterplay. An arbitrary team of your strongest creatures is not what the challenges are built around, and that is the most common reason a run stalls at a fight you feel you should win. Read what you are up against and build for it.
Items tilt the maths too. The Experimental Amplifier grants a substantial damage boost against enemies on Normal difficulty, which makes it a straightforward pick when you are working that tier. Note the qualifier. The boost is stated for Normal, so treat it as a Normal-difficulty tool rather than an assumed answer everywhere.
What runs feed outside the Sim
Holo-Sim is also a Glimmer source. It sits alongside quests, chests, puzzles and the battle pass as ways to earn, with daily tasks and events being the efficient farming routes. If you are grinding Glimmer specifically, the Sim is one option among several rather than the fastest one.
Where that Glimmer goes is the Holo Shop, and the Shop rotates its stock on a weekly schedule. Worth checking each week before you spend, since what is available now will not necessarily be there next week.
Where to start
Before your next attempt: equip every rune you own, build the team around elemental counters rather than raw strength, and take the Experimental Amplifier if you are running Normal. Then push the route difficulty up until it hurts, because that is where the better rewards are.
