Thornblade grass crit team: Melobloom Thorny Blessing
Thornblade's Grass team lives on critical hits. Melobloom turns them into thorns, adds 70% Grass crit damage for 30 seconds, and breaks enemies without a dedicated breaker.

The short version
- Thornblade is the main DPS of a Grass team, and Melobloom is the support that makes its critical hits worth more.
- Under Thorny Blessing, every Grass critical hit spawns thorns beneath the target for extra damage, and the thorns only trigger on a Grass crit.
- Rose Garden, Melobloom's ultimate, gives allies inside its circle a 70% increase to Grass critical damage for 30 seconds, so the team should fight inside that circle.
- Melobloom's Break is far higher than other buffers, around 204 to 212, which lets her break enemies so the team does not need a dedicated breaker.
- Melobloom also cleanses debuffs from the whole team and heals through Rose Mark and Healing Rose, which covers sustain without another slot.
A Thornblade Grass team is built on one idea: land critical hits with Grass Aniimo, then make each of those crits do more than it would on its own. Thornblade supplies the damage. Melobloom supplies almost everything else.
Melobloom is a Grass-element support, and in this team she does three jobs at once. She buffs, through Thorny Blessing and her ultimate Rose Garden. She breaks, because her Break is far higher than other buffers. And she cleanses, clearing debuffs from the whole team.
Fair warning before you build it. Thornblade has a distinctly technical play style, and its Grass team is difficult to play. The payoff comes from understanding how the crit pieces connect, which is what this page covers.
Thornblade carries, Melobloom supports
Thornblade is a high-damage Aniimo and serves as the main DPS of a Grass team. Its own kit has its own guide on this site; here it matters as the unit whose hits you are trying to multiply.
Melobloom is primarily a support Aniimo and fills the support role in combat. She is not exclusive to Thornblade either: she slots into Grass teams built around Irisalis in the same role. If you are raising Grass Aniimo at all, she is a sound investment.
To get her, you evolve Budsquire into Melobloom, and that evolution requires completing the Flowers and Thorns journey quest. Plan for the quest rather than expecting the evolution to happen on its own.

Thorny Blessing turns crits into thorns
Thorny Blessing is the reason Melobloom belongs with Thornblade specifically. It buffs the whole team, so that the team's Grass critical hits create thorns beneath the enemy that deal additional damage.
The condition is strict. The thorns deal damage only when a Grass Aniimo lands a critical hit. A non-crit does nothing extra, and a crit from an Aniimo of another element does nothing extra either. That is what makes this a Grass crit team rather than a Grass team with a crit build tacked on: every member you add should be Grass, and every hit you take should have a chance to crit.
The upside is that the effect stacks naturally with a high-damage carry. Thornblade landing more Grass crits means more thorns under the target, without anyone else needing to do anything differently.
Rose Garden and the 70% crit damage window
Melobloom's ultimate is Rose Garden. It grants allies inside its circle a 70% increase to Grass critical damage for 30 seconds.
Two things follow from that. First, position matters: the bonus applies to allies inside the circle, so Thornblade needs to be fighting there, not chasing a target out of it. Second, timing matters: 30 seconds is a burst window, and the team does its best work when you save your heaviest Grass crits for it.
Rose Garden and Thorny Blessing reward the same thing. Thorny Blessing adds thorns on each Grass crit, and Rose Garden makes those Grass crits hit harder. Inside the circle, each crit is doing double duty.

Rose Mark: healing that comes from attacking
Melobloom's trait grants a stack of Rose Mark when a party member deals basic attack damage. When the rose mark blooms, after a target suffers three critical hits, it heals all nearby allies for 5% of her HP.
This is why the team can lean so hard into offence. Its healing comes out of the same critical hits it was already trying to land, so a crit team that is playing well is also topping itself up. Stay close together, because the heal reaches nearby allies only.
Breaking without a dedicated breaker
Melobloom's Break is far higher than other buffers, at around 204 to 212. That lets her act as both buffer and breaker, so the team can break enemies without a dedicated breaker.
For a Thornblade team this is a real saving. A slot that would otherwise go to a breaker can go to another Grass Aniimo, and more Grass Aniimo means more hits that can trigger Thorny Blessing's thorns.
Cleansing and sustain
Melobloom cleanses debuffs and negative status effects from the whole team. Sparkling Rose is the skill that does it, removing negative effects from the whole team in one go.
Healing Rose covers the rest. It summons an exploding rose that provides healing and applies a debuff to the opponent, so even her healing skill contributes something offensive.
Between Sparkling Rose, Healing Rose and the Rose Mark bloom, Melobloom handles the team's recovery herself. Thornblade can stay on the attack, which is exactly where a technical, crit-hungry carry wants to be.
Where to start
Build the team all Grass, put Melobloom in the support slot, and play around Rose Garden's circle and its 30 second window. Let her Break replace a dedicated breaker, and use that freed slot for another Grass attacker.
