What is a Prismana Aniimo? Forms, rarity and unlocks
A Prismana is a special form of a Nova-stage Aniimo, not a shiny. Here is how the gauge forces one to spawn, which ball to throw, and the free one at level 40.
The short version
- A Prismana is an exceptionally rare special form of a Nova-stage Aniimo, with its own 3D model and colour palette. It is not a rarity tier and it is not the same thing as a Sparkling (shiny) Aniimo.
- You cannot get a Prismana by normal catching, development or evolution. A region's Prismana spawns only when that region's prismatic energy gauge is full, and at that point the spawn is guaranteed and marked by a tall beam of light.
- Throw a Sparkling ball or Sparkling Cube at a Prismana instead of a normal pod.
- Reaching level 40 and the Wayfarer title lets you claim a free Prismana, and every permanent Prismana, starters included, can be obtained later through Prismana Flow.
- Whether Prismana are purely cosmetic is not settled, but they do unlock an exclusive skill for their species and have greatly increased work capability on the homestead.
Aniimo has two kinds of rare creature that new players mix up constantly: Sparkling Aniimo and Prismana Aniimo. They are different systems. A Sparkling is a colour mutation. A Prismana is a whole alternate form, with a different model, and you cannot stumble into one the way you stumble into a shiny.
This guide covers what a Prismana actually is, how it differs from a Sparkling, the open question of whether it is stronger or just prettier, and every route to getting one: the wild spawn, the free pick at level 40, and the rewards tied to progression.
What a Prismana Aniimo is

A Prismana is an exceptionally rare, radiant special form of a Nova-stage Aniimo. It belongs to the same species as the ordinary version, so a Prismana Glacy is still a Glacy. What sets it apart is a modified 3D model and an alternate colour palette.
It is not a rarity tier. Think of it as an alternate or regional form with its own markings, sitting alongside the other ways a creature can vary: regional variants tied to their native biome, high-potential variants and unique traits.
Not every species is confirmed to have one, but plenty do. Glacy has a Prismana form, as do Walldeagle, Melloblum, Inferlupa, Glenserra and Infergon.
Prismana versus Sparkling
Sparkling Aniimo, also called shiny or glimmering Aniimo, are the game's shiny variants. A rare cosmetic mutation gives them an alternate coloration, much like shiny Pokémon: changed colour and body markings, plus a sparkling visual aura.
A Prismana is a separate thing. Its markings differ from a shiny's, and it changes the model, not just the paint.
The two can stack. An Aniimo can spawn as a Prismana and as a Sparkling at the same time, which is how you get something like a Sparkling Prismana Melloblum. If you see one of those, you are looking at about as rare as a creature in this game gets.
Cosmetic or stronger: the stats question

This is the part people argue about, and the honest answer is that it is not settled. The Prismana form is described both as a purely visual alternate variant and as an empowered final evolution that differs in more than appearance. Until that is resolved, do not chase one expecting a known stat bonus.
What is settled is that a Prismana does more than sit in your collection. Obtaining one unlocks an exclusive skill for the species. Get Prismana Infergon, for example, and Gale Charge becomes available to every Infergon you raise afterwards.
They also pull their weight at home. Put to work on the farm or homestead, Prismana Aniimo have greatly increased work capability. And each Prismana you obtain awards one Iris Petal, so every new one counts for something even if you never battle with it.
How a Prismana spawns in the wild
Forget standard catching, development and evolution. None of them produce a Prismana. They need special discovery methods, and the main one is the prismatic energy gauge.
Each region has a gauge in a nurture branch. A region's Prismana Aniimo spawns only once that gauge is filled to maximum. When a bloom's prismatic energy reaches Full, Prismana flow starts and the bloom is forced to spawn a Prismana. The spawn is guaranteed, so this is a matter of filling the gauge, not of luck.
You will know when it happens. A large vertical beam of light appears beside the bloom and marks exactly where the Prismana is.
When you reach it, do not throw a normal pod. Use a Sparkling ball or a Sparkling Cube.

The free Prismana and other guaranteed unlocks
You do not have to wait on the gauge for your first one. Reaching level 40 and promoting to the Wayfarer title lets you select and claim a free Prismana companion.
At launch this came as the Prismana Pact event selector, unlocked by reaching account level 40 and the Junior Wayfarer Pathfinder rank (also called Junior Excursionist). It lets you choose one free rare Prismana between levels 40 and 45. How many options the selector offers is not settled: it is given as both 14 and six, so check the list in game before you plan around a particular pick.
Other progression rewards add more. RV level 10 is a key milestone that unlocks a Prismana Font Mane. The Season 1 Achievement path rewards an exclusive Prismana variant, and its badge comes in a Prismana version too.

Limited-time forms and what you can still get

Some Prismana were tied to events. The Prismana forms of Walldeagle, Melloblum, Inferlupa and Glenserra, including Sparkling versions such as Sparkling Prismana Melloblum, were limited-time and could be captured only during Vein Abundance events.
The permanent ones are safer. Every permanent Prismana Aniimo, including every starter option, can be obtained later through Prismana Flow. So if you agonise over the free pick, remember that passing on a permanent Prismana now does not lock you out of it for good.
Where to start
Claim the free Prismana once you reach level 40 and the Wayfarer title. Skip any permanent pick you can get later through Prismana Flow, and keep a Sparkling ball or Sparkling Cube ready for when a region's gauge fills. Pick for the exclusive skill and the homestead work boost, not for a stat bonus nobody has confirmed.
