Alpha Minespine location: cave route and Budclaw tunnel

Bring Gravity Pull and a tunnelling Aniimo such as Budclaw. The cave west of Beast Fang Ridge stays shut to you without both, and the level 60 boss waits inside.

The short version

  1. Alpha Minespine is level 60 and lives in a hidden cave in the mountains west of the Beast Fang Ridge teleport point.
  2. The cave entrance sits at the edge of a cliff, and the route runs through a long tunnel you cannot see at first.
  3. You need Gravity Pull to move explosive barrels onto dense dark rock and blow it up, and an Aniimo with the tunnel ability, such as Budclaw, to pass beneath a boulder.
  4. There is an unlockable teleport point along the route, so unlock it on the way in.
  5. Minespine burrows during the fight and deals 20% extra break damage while tunnelling; only specific unearthing attacks can target it down there.

Alpha Minespine is one of the harder Alpha Aniimo to find, and the difficulty is getting there, not spotting it. The cave is hidden, the tunnel leading in is not visible at first, and the way is blocked twice: once by rock you have to blow up, and once by a boulder you have to dig under.

This guide covers the route from Beast Fang Ridge, what to bring so you don't have to turn back, and what Minespine does once you reach it. The full system of finding, fighting and catching world bosses has its own article. This one covers this particular cave.

Where Alpha Minespine lives

Start at the Beast Fang Ridge teleport point. Alpha Minespine is in a hidden cave in the mountains west of that teleport, and the entrance is at the edge of a cliff. If you are walking along the cliffs and can't see a way in, keep looking at the edges. Nothing about the entrance announces itself.

The boss is level 60, so check your team against that number before you make the trip. Turning back from the cavern means walking the whole route again.

Alpha Minespine is level 60, so check your team against that before you make the trip west of the Beast Fang Ridge teleport.

Getting through the cave: Gravity Pull and the Budclaw tunnel

Past the entrance, the route runs through a long tunnel that is not visible at first. Two obstacles stand between you and the cavern, and each needs a specific tool.

The first is dense dark rock. You can't break it directly. Use Gravity Pull to move the explosive barrels nearby onto the rock, then blow it up. If the barrels aren't touching the dark rock, the explosion won't clear it, so place them first and then set them off.

The second is a boulder. You don't move this one. You go under it, which means you need an Aniimo with the tunnel ability on your team. Budclaw is one that works. Without a tunneller you can't get into the Alpha Minespine cavern at all, so sort this out before you leave the teleport.

There is also an unlockable teleport point along the route. Unlock it as you pass. If the fight goes badly, it saves you walking back from Beast Fang Ridge for your next try.

What Alpha Minespine does in a fight

Minespine is an Earth-element Aniimo with a breaker role, and its signature trick fits the cave it lives in. During combat it tunnels underground and keeps attacking and using abilities from below. While it is down there, ordinary attacks can't target it. Only specific unearthing attacks reach it.

It also hits harder while buried, dealing 20% extra break damage while tunnelling. In practice, the longer you leave it underground, the more pressure it puts on you. Bring something that can unearth it, and use it promptly. The general rules of burrowing in Earth and Grass combat are covered in their own article.

Minespine is an Earth breaker. It tunnels underground to attack and deals 20% extra break damage while tunneling.

If you take on Minespine (Alpha Mines) through Holo Interlink, don't rely on AI teammates. They do badly in this fight and usually die by the 1:30 mark, which leaves you carrying the rest of it alone. They also struggle against Alpha Scorch, while they do noticeably better against Alpha Luminel. If you are picking which Alpha to farm with AI support, Minespine is among the worst options.

The first time you defeat Alpha Minespine, as with every Alpha Aniimo, you get an Irisalis petal without spending energy. Only the first clear gives that free petal, so the first win is the one worth planning for.

Where to start

Before you leave Beast Fang Ridge, check you have Gravity Pull and a tunnelling Aniimo such as Budclaw on the team, plus something that can unearth a burrowed target. Unlock the teleport along the route on the way in. If you fight through Holo Interlink, plan on finishing the fight without AI teammates.
