How to use Anipods and Sparkling Cubes on eggs

Which pod to pick when you hatch an egg, which eggs make an Ultra Anipod or Sparkling Cube pointless, and where a cube actually earns its place.

4 min read6 sectionschecked updated

The short version

  1. You have to select an Anipod before an egg will hatch, and a pod whose tooltip shows no hatching subtext gives the egg no bonus at all.
  2. Hyper Anipods add no stat or rarity bonus to a hatch, so they are not an upgrade for eggs.
  3. An Ultra Anipod does nothing extra on Alpha Aniimo, Umbral eggs, or any egg that already guarantees Elite rarity or Perfect potential; a basic Anicube hatches those perfectly well.
  4. A Sparkling Cube used on a non-Umbral egg gives a 1% chance of a dazzling sparkling style, and on a Prismana egg it can trigger a shadow sparkling mutation.
  5. Save Sparkling Cubes for Prismana eggs or confirmed meta picks, and never spend one on an egg that already guarantees a sparkling result or perfect potential.

When you hatch an egg in Aniimo, the egg is only half the decision. You also pick the Anipod it hatches into, and during incubation some eggs will take a Sparkling Cube as well. Both choices can change what comes out, and both can be wasted completely.

Most of the waste comes from one mistake: spending a good item on an egg that already guarantees what the item would give. This guide covers what each pod does at the hatch, which eggs already carry a guarantee, and where a Sparkling Cube is worth using.

How to hatch an egg: pick the Anipod first

To hatch an egg, you first select an Anipod. The egg does not open until you have.

The pod's tooltip tells you what it does to a hatch. Pods with a hatching effect list it as extra subtext. A pod with no subtext adds no hatching bonus, whatever it does when you throw it at a wild Aniimo. Read the tooltip before you commit.

Hyper Anipods are the trap here. They give no stat bonus and no rarity bonus, and they show no hatching effects. On an egg, a Hyper Anipod does nothing a cheaper pod would not.

What an Ultra Anipod does for a hatch

The Ultra Anipod is the pod people reach for when an egg matters, but what it guarantees is not settled. It is given as a minimum of Epic potential, as a minimum of Elite acquired potential, and as only a chance at Elite potential. Treat it as an improvement to the odds rather than a lock.

What is clear is where it does nothing. An Ultra Pod or Ultra Cube adds no benefit on Alpha Aniimo, on Umbral eggs, or on eggs that already guarantee Elite rarity or Perfect potential. Put one on an egg that already guarantees Elite potential and you have duplicated a guarantee you already had. The pod is simply gone.

The flip side is good news for your stock. An egg that guarantees perfect class or potential does not need a high-tier pod at all. A basic Anicube still hatches a perfect creature from it.

Eggs that already guarantee the result

These are the eggs where an expensive pod or cube is wasted, so it is worth knowing them by name.

Incredible Eggs, such as the ones in Beast Fang Ridge, guarantee an Aniimo with Elite potential or higher. Umbral eggs guarantee an Umbra Aniimo with perfect potential. The Prismana Sparkelf from the event Spirit Egg is guaranteed perfect potential.

A Wonder Egg guarantees at least an Alpha mutation or a Sparkling mutation. It hatches into one or the other, and Alpha is the more common outcome.

The plain Sparkling Egg is the awkward one. Whether it guarantees a Sparkling Aniimo is not settled: it is described as always hatching a sparkling Aniimo, though with no guarantee of elite rarity or potential, and also as carrying no such guarantee at all. Two eggs are firmer. The Departure Sparkling Egg and eggs with the Super Dazzling label do guarantee the Sparkling mutation.

Using a Sparkling Cube on an egg

A Sparkling Cube goes by several names: Sparkling Pod, Twinkle Cube, Shiny Cube, Sparkle Cube, sparking box. Whatever you call it, you can apply it to certain eggs during incubation. Thrown at a spawned Prismana it always captures it, since it has a guaranteed 100% catch rate; that side of it belongs to the catching guide.

On eggs, two effects are firm. Hatching a non-Umbral egg with a Sparkling Cube gives a 1% chance of a dazzling sparkling style. Using one on a Prismana egg can trigger a shadow sparkling mutation.

The bigger question is not settled. The cube is described as forcing the Sparkling variant with sparkling Prismana quality on anything caught or hatched with it, with high potential and perfect rarity, and as turning an Alpha, including one hatched from an Alpha egg, into a Perfect Sparkling Alpha. It is also described as only making a sparkling Aniimo easier to get, or only giving a chance of hatching one. Whether it also guarantees Perfect potential and perfect stats is not settled either. Do not plan a hatch around the cube being a certainty.

1%

Dazzling sparkling chance on a non Umbral egg

Hatching a non Umbral egg with a Sparkling Cube gives only a 1% chance of a dazzling sparkling style, so save the cube for eggs where it counts.

Where a Sparkling Cube is worth spending

Because the cube is scarce and its guarantees are unsettled, spend it where the upside is real. Save it for Prismana eggs, where the shadow sparkling mutation is on the table, or for Aniimo that are confirmed meta picks. Early monsters you are not sure about are not worth one.

The same rule as the Ultra Anipod applies. A cube on an egg that already guarantees a sparkling result or perfect potential throws away its guaranteed effects. The Departure Sparkling Egg, Super Dazzling eggs, Umbral eggs and the Spirit Egg's Sparkelf all fall on that list.

Where to start

Before you hatch an egg, check two things: what the egg already guarantees, and what the pod's tooltip says it adds. If the egg already guarantees the result, a basic Anicube is enough. Keep Ultra Anipods for eggs with no guarantee, and keep Sparkling Cubes for Prismana eggs and Aniimo you know you will use.
