Joff's outpost shop and Item Exchange trades

Where to open Joff's Item Exchange from the field, what his shop charges for Tumblers and Growth fruit, and which Sparkling Crystal rates are still unsettled.

The short version

  1. Outpost Guardian Joff has a shop and a separate trade menu. Item conversions such as Sparkling Crystals and Kappa Seeds are in the trade menu's Item Exchange section.
  2. You can reach Joff's exchange in the field through Shop > Corner Shop > Exchange, so you don't need to go back to a station to buy Anipods.
  3. Turning in 100 Sparkling Crystals at the outpost vendor for a Sparkling Cube is the easiest way to get Sparkling Cubes. The other Sparkling Crystal exchange rates are still unsettled.
  4. Joff's shop sells Growth (green) fruit for 1,000 and Tumblers for 200,000 currency each.
  5. Kappa Seeds become Kappa Fruit in Joff's Item Exchange, and the nurture section of his trade menu sells items for spawning specific creatures.

If you searched "how to trade in Aniimo", the trading this page covers is with Outpost Guardian Joff (also rendered Jeff), the vendor at the outposts. He has a normal shop. He also has a separate trade menu, and that menu holds the Item Exchange, where one resource turns into another.

Most of what makes Joff useful is in the exchange: Sparkling Crystals into Sparkling Cubes, Kappa Seeds into Kappa Fruit, and nurture items for spawning particular creatures. The shop side covers the expensive staples, Tumblers and Growth fruit.

Below you'll find what each menu offers, which prices are fixed, and which ones the game still hasn't settled.

How to trade with Joff from the field

Joff runs two menus. The shop is one. The trade menu is a separate screen with its own sections, and Item Exchange is one of them. Nurture is another. If you can't find an item in his shop, look in the trade menu next.

You don't have to walk back to an outpost to reach him. In the field, go to Shop > Corner Shop > Exchange to open his stock without returning to a station. Anipods are sold there too, so if you run low on them halfway through a catching trip you can restock where you stand.

What Joff's shop sells

Growth fruit, the green one, costs 1,000 in Joff's Shop. That's the simplest way to buy it.

Tumblers are the big expense. Outpost vendors such as Joff sell them at 200,000 currency each, so expect to save up before buying one.

The Anipod Ultra costs 200 in the shop. Which currency you pay in is not settled: it is listed as both Lumin Crystals and Glimmer. You can also get one for 20 vouchers in the Item Exchange, or for 400,000 currency from the mysterious vendor. Anipod tiers have their own guide on this site. What matters here is that Joff is one of three ways to get an Ultra.

200,000

Tumbler price at outpost vendors

Outpost vendors such as Outpost Guardian Joff sell Tumblers at 200,000 currency each, so save up before you visit.

Sparkling Crystal conversions in the Item Exchange

You exchange Sparkling Crystals in the Item Exchange tab of the outpost vendor. One conversion holds up well. Turn in 100 Sparkling Crystals and you get a Sparkling Cube, which is the easiest way to get Cubes. Sparkling Cubes cost 1,500 Glimmer or premium currency, and you get them by buying 100 Sparkling Crystals and exchanging them at outpost vendors.

The trade also runs the other way. An NPC trader at the outpost gives you 1,000 Sparkling Crystals for one Sparkling Cube.

Past that, the numbers are unsettled. One Sparkling Anipod is listed at both 1,000 and 100 Sparkling Crystals. One Sparkling Cube is listed at 1,000, 100 and 5. It's also unclear whether you can buy Cubes outright at outposts. In one version you buy them with Glimmer from Joff under the Item Exchange menu at outposts, or from the item exchange vendor at the headquarters. In the other, standard outpost shop vendors don't sell them at all. Check the rate on Joff's screen before you commit a large stack of Crystals.

Sparkling Sigils go through the same merchant. Exchange them at the outpost for Sparkling Pigments.

Kappa Seeds and nurture items

Kappa Seeds become Kappa Fruit in Joff's Item Exchange. During the beta, twenty Potential (Kappa) Seeds got you one Capability (Kappa) Fruit in the exchange shop. That was the beta rate, so check his screen for the current one. What the fruit does is covered in the Capability Fruit guide on this site.

The nurture section of Joff's trade menu sells nurture items for spawning specific creatures. Choosing which creature a nurture spawns has its own guide. The point here is that Joff is one source of nurture shards. The others are the weekly stamp shop, Holo Battle Interlink, Elite Training, the nurture branch and catch completion rewards. Joff is the one you can visit whenever you like, so when you're short of shards for a nurture you want, he's the place to start.

Where to start

Open Joff from the field through Shop > Corner Shop > Exchange. Turn spare Sparkling Crystals into Cubes at 100 each, convert Kappa Seeds and Sparkling Sigils as they pile up, and save your currency for Tumblers. On any Sparkling rate other than 100 Crystals for a Cube, go by the number on his screen.
