Russet Highlands spawns: Helmut, Jawling and Rookey
Where Jawling, Helgon and Rookey turn up in Russet Highlands, how to open the gate to mountain form Jawling, and the Helmut evolution that guarantees a perfect Pawney.

Russet Highlands has a handful of spawns that are easy to miss and one that is easy to waste. Jawling is everywhere, but its mountain form is locked behind a puzzle. Helgon is out in the wild, just not in many places. Rookey has one spot worth remembering.
The one that costs you something if you get it wrong is Helmut. Evolve it at the right moment in its quest and you walk away with a guaranteed perfect Pawney. That part comes second here, after the spawns.
Jawling aniimo: basic and mountain form
Jawling is a common spawn in Russet Highlands, so you will not have to hunt for the basic form. It also has a mountain form, and that one is found in the same region.
The catch is that mountain form Jawling sits behind a gate. To open it, talk to the young Jawling first, then solve the alignment puzzle with the wall markings. Once the markings line up, the gate opens and the mountain form is on the other side. If you have been running past common Jawlings wondering where the other form is, that conversation is the step you skipped.
Rookey spawns below the Bloom Branch
Rookey spawns in Russet Highlands, just below the Bloom Branch. That is the spot to head for if you want one, and since you will be crossing the region for Jawling anyway, it is worth a detour on the same trip.
Helmut, Helgon and a perfect Pawney
A perfect Pawney starts with catching Helmut. During The Legend of Helmuts and Helgons quest, evolve a perfect Helmut before you pull the sword, and the Pawney you get is guaranteed perfect. The timing is the whole trick. Pull the sword first and you have given up the moment the guarantee is tied to.
Helgon is the other half of that quest's name, and it can be caught in the wild. It spawns in only a few places in Russet Highlands, so do not expect to stumble into one. Look up near Twisted Peaks, where it flies in circles.
Where to start
Grab basic Jawling and Rookey as you pass through, talk to the young Jawling and solve the wall puzzle for the mountain form, and check the sky near Twisted Peaks for Helgon. Above all, have a perfect Helmut ready and evolve it before you pull the sword in The Legend of Helmuts and Helgons. That gets you the perfect Pawney.
