Starter names: Lunara, Caelion and Special Aniimo status

Lunara or Lunara, Helion or Caelion: which names to expect at the prologue choice, why Lunara was the easier pick in beta, and why neither could join the Bond Pact.

The short version

  1. Your first major decision in Aniimo is a starter: a Moon spirit called Lunara or a Sun spirit most often called Helion.
  2. The Sun starter's name is not settled. It also appears as Caelion, Elion and Halcyon, Spirit of the Sun.
  3. Lunara is a Light-type Aniimo, the Spirit of the Moon, shown both as a fox and as a divine wolf.
  4. During the beta, Lunara was the more forgiving starter because it fought at range and could heal itself.
  5. Lunara and Helion are Special Aniimo, which is why they could not be sealed in the Bond Pact event at the end of the Global Closed Beta.

The first major decision Aniimo asks of you is which starter to take. The prologue puts a Moon spirit and a Sun spirit in front of you, and that much is clear. What each one is called is less clear.

This page sorts out the names you will run into, what the Moon starter was like to play in the beta, and why both starters sat out the Bond Pact event that closed the Global Closed Beta.

What are the starters?

Helion
Helion

The prologue offers you a choice between Helion and Lunara.

Lunara is the Spirit of the Moon, a Light-type Aniimo. Even its form is not fixed: it is shown both as a fox and as a divine wolf. Its counterpart is the Spirit of the Sun, the Aniimo you will most often see called Helion.

The lineup is not always given as just this pair, either. It also appears as a lineup that includes Fenelon.

Why the Sun starter has four names

Lunara
Lunara

The starters are not settled, and the Sun spirit shows it most. Helion is the name the prologue choice uses, but the same Spirit of the Sun also goes by Caelion, Elion and Halcyon. The Moon starter is steadier, moving only between Lunara and Lunara.

In practice, treat these as one creature under several labels. If you are searching for Caelion or Halcyon, you are looking for the Sun starter.

How Lunara played in the beta

During the beta, Lunara was the gentler of the starters to learn. It fought at range and could heal itself. Keeping your distance means taking fewer hits, and self-healing covers the hits you do take, so mistakes were less costly early on.

That makes the Moon spirit the safer suggestion for a player who wants room to learn. It is a statement about the beta, though. Nothing here says how either starter plays in the current build.

Lunara, Spirit of the Moon. A Light-type starter whose ranged combat and self-healing made it more forgiving in the beta.

Special Aniimo status and the Bond Pact event

At the end of the Global Closed Beta there was a Bond Pact event, and four Aniimo could not be sealed in it: Folmantis, Helion, Ibrisalis and Lunara.

For the two starters the reason is specific. Lunara and Helion are classified as Special Aniimo, and that classification kept them out. So if you picked a starter in the beta and found it missing from the Bond Pact, that was not a bug. It was their status working as intended.

Where to start

Expect the Sun starter under any of Helion, Caelion, Elion or Halcyon, and the Moon starter under Lunara or Lunara. If you want the forgiving start the beta offered, Lunara was the one. Don't plan around either starter in a Bond Pact, because their Special Aniimo status kept them out last time.
