Stellarys build: Fission Needle, clones and basic attacks

Stellarys turns skills into basic attack damage. Here is the attack loop, why Fission Needle is the held item, and how the Shadow Magic clone and its swap fit in.

The short version

  1. Stellarys is a ranged Dark damage dealer built for the main DPS role, and it is the best dark DPS against bosses and single targets.
  2. Basic attacks restore energy, so the loop is to basic attack until EP is full, then spend it on skills.
  3. Grand Sorcerer makes basic attacks deal additional damage for 5 seconds after any skill, which ties the whole kit back to basic attacks.
  4. Fission Needle is the best held item for Stellarys and Prismana Stellarys, though its exact effect is not settled yet.
  5. Shadow Magic summons a clone that copies your basic attacks and skills at 20% damage, and casting it again swaps you with the clone.

Stellarys is a ranged Dark damage dealer, and it fits the main DPS role. It is also the best dark DPS against bosses and single targets. That second point decides how you build it: a fight against one big target rewards steady, repeated damage, and that is exactly what basic attacks give you.

The build here is held item first, basic attacks second, skills third. Your skills still matter. Their job is to power up your basic attacks and add copies of them, so you are not leaning on skills to do the heavy lifting themselves.

Everything below applies to Prismana Stellarys too. Where the Prismana form does something different, it is called out.

Stellarys is a ranged Dark damage dealer suited to the main DPS role.

The basic attack loop

Stellarys's basic attacks restore energy. So you play it in two beats: basic attack until EP is full, then spend that EP on skills.

The trait, Grand Sorcerer, is what makes this loop pay. After Stellarys uses a skill, its basic attacks deal additional damage for 5 seconds. Spending your EP is never only about what the skill does. It also opens a window where your next basic attacks hit harder, and those attacks refill the EP you just spent.

You do not stand still while you do it, either. Stellarys keeps a ranged playstyle, and it has mobility built into its attacks, so you can keep firing while you stay out of reach.

Fission Needle is the held item

Fission Needle is the best held item for Stellarys, and that includes its Prismana form. It fits the build because it boosts basic attacks, which are already where most of your damage comes from.

What it does exactly is not settled yet. It is given as a 30% increase to basic attack damage amplification, and it is also given as a 50% chance for every basic attack to deal double damage. Both versions point the same way: more damage on every basic attack. Either way, it is the item to equip on this build.

Shadow Magic and the clone

Shadow Magic creates a shadow clone that mimics Stellarys's basic attacks and skills at 20% of Stellarys's normal damage. It mirrors your basic attacks, and your ultimate too, which adds extra attacks to everything you do in combat. The clone lasts 20 seconds.

In a basic attack build that copy is the reason to take it. Each basic attack you fire is matched by the clone, and Fission Needle has already made those attacks stronger.

The clone also works as a movement tool. Use Shadow Magic again and Stellarys swaps places with the clone it left behind. Drop the clone somewhere safe, keep attacking, and swap back when the fight moves onto you.

20%

Shadow clone damage

The Shadow Magic clone mimics Stellarys's basic attacks and skills at 20% of its normal damage, so it adds extra hits but does not replace Stellarys's own attacks.

Stars, Glide and the Prismana form

Your other skills feed the same loop. Enhancing the core skill, Starfall, makes it fire five homing stars. Glide skills such as Shooting Star Glide let Stellarys ride a star through the air, so you can reposition around enemies and avoid attacks, and it drops stars that damage your target as it goes. Every one of these is a skill cast, so every one also starts a Grand Sorcerer window for your basic attacks.

Prismana Stellarys has its own base core Magic skill, Shooting Stars, which fires homing stars. How many it fires is not settled. The base count is given as three without a contract, and five when contracted or enhanced. It is also given as five, and as six. A bonded Stellarys fires 10 while the Shadow Magic clone is active, which is one more reason to keep the clone up.

The stars also stack a buff. Each star that damages a target grants the user a 1% Damage Boost, stacking up to 15 times for a maximum of 15%. More stars landing means you reach the cap sooner.

15%

Max Shooting Stars Damage Boost

Each star that damages a target grants a 1% Damage Boost, stacking up to 15 times, so landing stars builds damage over the fight.

Where this build earns its slot

Single targets are where Stellarys is strongest, and the Alpha Luminel fight is the clearest example. It is a strong basic-attack-focused pick there because it benefits from the basic attack speed buff in that fight. Faster basic attacks mean faster EP, more Grand Sorcerer windows, and more attacks for the clone to copy.

For spawns, evolution and the wider kit, this site has a separate page on Celestis and Stellarys. The skills and typings of Prismana Stellarys are covered next to Prismana Turbo and Glacy.

Where to start

Equip Fission Needle and play to the energy loop: basic attack to fill EP, then spend it to start a Grand Sorcerer window. Keep the Shadow Magic clone up so it copies your attacks, and recast it to swap out of danger. Take this build into boss and single target fights like Alpha Luminel.
