Surviving Egg Heist Nightmare: modules, waves and guards
Nightmare Egg Heist needs epic-tier modules at minimum, and most deaths come from the boss's fire, which you cannot out-heal. Here is how to stay alive.
The short version
- Nightmare Egg Heist needs a strong team, and you want at least epic-tier modules to survive the incoming damage.
- An attack amplifier module has 100 durability and breaks after about 100 ability uses, so it wears out over a run.
- Extra enemies spawn on the timer, including around the five-minute mark, and waves also arrive at about 10 and 2 minutes remaining.
- The main boss's lingering bomb leaves a fire zone on the floor that you cannot out-heal, and it is the main cause of player deaths.
- Ranged damage dealers have a large advantage because they can kite melee enemies, even in solo Nightmare runs.
Egg Heist on Nightmare is not a mode you clear by turning up and pressing buttons. The damage coming in is high enough that a weak team folds, the clock brings fresh enemies at set points, and the boss has one attack that kills more players than everything else put together.
This guide covers the parts that decide whether you survive Nightmare: which modules you need, how the waves are timed, who guards the eggs, and what to do about the bomb. How Egg Heist works in general has its own article on this site. This one is about getting through the hardest difficulty.
What Nightmare asks of your team
Nightmare needs a strong team. The floor for modules is epic tier. Anything below that and you will not survive the incoming damage, however well you play.
The team itself should lean ranged. Ranged damage dealers have a large advantage in Egg Heist because they can kite melee enemies: you keep moving, they keep chasing, and you keep hitting them while they cannot hit back. That holds even in solo Nightmare runs, which makes a ranged attacker the safest pick if you are going in alone.
Attack modules wear out
Modules are not permanent. An attack amplifier module has 100 durability and lasts about 100 ability uses before it breaks.
That changes how you think about them. Every ability you fire costs the module a little, so a long run eats into it. Check its condition before you start a Nightmare attempt rather than finding out halfway through that your damage has dropped.

Egg Heist waves and the guards on the eggs
The run is on a timer, and the timer brings company. Additional enemies spawn during an Egg Heist run, including around the five-minute mark. Waves also arrive at about 10 minutes and 2 minutes remaining.
Treat those points on the clock as warnings. If your party is spread out or low on health as one of them approaches, regroup first and loot later.
The eggs are not left lying around for free either. In the Sanctum, and at higher difficulties such as Nightmare, eggs are guarded by hostile Umbra Aniimo or bosses. Expect a fight at every egg worth having.
The boss bomb and why you stay together
The main boss has a lingering bomb that leaves an explosion zone on the floor. The fire in that zone ticks for damage, and you cannot out-heal it. It is the main cause of player deaths in Egg Heist. The answer is not to tank it with healing. Get out of the zone and stay out.
The other big killer is splitting up. Staying together as a party lowers the risk of deaths, so leaving the group is a bad idea unless you are doing challenges. A lone player caught by a wave or a guard has nobody to cover them.
When you do need to find your way, shrine locations can be shown on the map. In Egg Heist they are marked by a pillar icon, so you can plan a route as a group instead of scattering to look for them.
Where to start
Bring a strong team with at least epic-tier modules, and lean on ranged attackers who can kite. Check your attack amplifier's durability before you start. Regroup ahead of the waves at about 10 minutes and 2 minutes remaining and around the five-minute mark. Never stand in the boss's fire. Stay with your party unless you are off doing challenges.
