The Aniilog and Photo Mode
Every capture writes species and form data into the Aniilog. That record is what unlocks sealed Bonded Promise eggs, and a rare variant lets you change its background.
The short version
- The Aniilog (also called the Anidex) records every Aniimo species and unique form you encounter, with information about each.
- Each Aniimo you capture registers both its species and its form data in the Aniilog, so catching a new form is what fills a new entry.

The Aniilog is the game's dex. You will see it called the Anidex too; it is the same thing. It keeps a record of every Aniimo species and unique form you have encountered, along with information about each one.
It is easy to treat a dex as a completionist's checklist and ignore it. That is a mistake here. The Aniilog is what the game checks before it hands back a sealed Bonded Promise egg, and it is where your rare variant finds end up on display. This page covers how it fills, what depends on it, and how to make it look like yours.
How entries get into the Aniilog
The Aniilog tracks species and forms separately. Every Aniimo you capture registers its species data and its form data, so a second form of a creature you already own is a new entry, not a duplicate. Encountering an Aniimo puts it on record; catching it is what writes the form data in.
That distinction matters more than it sounds, because the form entry is the thing other systems look at. Keep it in mind for the next section.
Sealed promise eggs wait on your Aniilog
If you took part in the Bonded Promise event, your reward arrives as a sealed promise egg, and you cannot hatch it straight away. The sealed Aniimo can only be reclaimed after you unlock that Aniimo's form in the Aniilog in the live game.
The way to unlock it is to catch the basic version of that Aniimo yourself. Once its form is registered, the seal no longer blocks you. So if you are holding a sealed egg, the first job is simple: find out which Aniimo is inside, go and catch its basic version, then come back to the egg. Nothing you did in the closed beta counts toward this; the form has to be unlocked in your current save.
Research reports and area medals
Two more systems feed off what you have caught, and both have their own guide on this site, so here is the short version. Research reports on Aniimo you have caught go to Lewis at the outpost. Cultivating an area requires you to capture at least 80% of the local Aniimo species, and doing so earns a bronze medal in that zone.
Both reward the same habit the sealed eggs do: catch broadly in each area rather than only chasing the creatures you plan to use.

The Aniilog has a default background, and you do not have to keep it. Finding a rare variant lets you replace that default with a photo of the variant you found.
It does nothing for your stats or your progress. What it does is turn the dex into a record of your luckiest find, sitting behind every page you open. If you have spent hours hunting a variant, this is where it gets shown off.
Where to start
Catch the basic version of anything you are holding a sealed promise egg for, since the egg stays locked until that form is in your Aniilog. Catch widely in each zone for research and the bronze medal, and when a rare variant turns up, put its photo on your Aniilog background.
