The Aniilog and Photo Mode
The Aniilog fills itself as you catch, but it also decides when your sealed eggs open and what your encyclopedia looks like.

The Aniilog is the in-game creature encyclopedia, and it fills itself. Every Aniimo you catch registers its species and form data automatically, so the basic version of the list is just a record of what you have done.
The part people underestimate is that the Aniilog is wired into other systems. It decides when a sealed egg from the Bonded Promise event will open. It is also where photo mode leaves its mark, because finding a rare variant lets you change what the Aniilog looks like.

What a catch actually writes down
Catch an Aniimo and its species and form data go into the Aniilog. You do not submit anything or confirm anything. The entry appears because you made the catch.
Registering a creature is not the same as completing it. Each creature has its own research tasks inside the Aniilog, so an entry you opened on day one can still have work sitting in it weeks later. Think of the catch as opening the page rather than finishing it.
Capture progress is also tracked per region. A region's capture completion percentage rises as you catch wild Aniimo there, and you can check it by selecting that region on the map. Cultivating an area asks for at least 80% of the local Aniimo species and earns you the zone's bronze medal. Sealed promise eggs wait on your Aniilog
This is the one that catches people out. Sealed promise eggs cannot be hatched the moment you get them. The Aniimo's form has to be unlocked in the Aniilog first, and you unlock it by catching the creature's basic version out in the world.
The same rule governs the Bonded Promise event. A sealed Aniimo from that event is reclaimed only once you have unlocked its corresponding form in the Aniilog in the live game. The egg is not the key. The entry is.
So if you are holding something sealed, the useful question is not when it hatches. It is where the basic version lives and whether you have caught one yet.
Photo mode and the variant background
Aniimo has an integrated photo mode. You can take full-team shots, pose an individual creature, apply filters, and adjust other settings from there.
It connects back to the encyclopedia in one specific way. Find a rare variant and you can replace the default Aniilog background with a photo of that variant. The background is the reward for the find, which makes it the closest thing the Aniilog has to a trophy shelf.
That is worth knowing before you meet your first variant, because the photo is the point. Catch it, then decide what you want the picture to look like.
Where to start
Treat the Aniilog as a gate, not a collectible. Catch the basic version of anything you care about early, because a sealed promise egg will not open until its form is registered, and the prettiest thing in photo mode is locked behind finding a rare variant in the first place.
