What Is Aniimo?
A free-to-play open-world creature collector with real-time combat, a map that is unlocked from the start, and a player character who fights alongside the creatures. Here is what you need to know before launch.
The short version
- Free to play, with optional in-game purchases. No upfront cost for the core game.
- Real-time action combat: movement, dodging, cooldown skills, team switching and stamina. Not turn-based.
- Your Pathfinder fights alongside your Aniimo rather than directing from a distance.
- The map has no locked areas. Everything is reachable from the start.
- An online connection is required to play.
- Global launch happens at one moment worldwide, on September 16th or September 15th depending on your time zone.
Aniimo is an open-world creature-collecting action RPG. You explore, you find creatures, you catch them, you build a team, you fight. That loop is the whole game, and everything else hangs off it.
The creatures are called Aniimo, same as the game. You play a Pathfinder, and the important thing about a Pathfinder is that you are not standing on the sidelines issuing orders. You fight too.
It is free to play, developed by Pawprint Studio and published by Kingsglory, and it launches globally on September 16th, or September 15th depending on your time zone.
The loop you will spend your time in
Four things, repeating. You explore the world, you encounter creatures and catch them, you build a team out of what you caught, and you battle. Each part feeds the next. Exploration is how you meet new Aniimo, catching is how your roster grows, and the roster is what you take into a fight.
That is a familiar shape for the genre. What is not familiar is how the fighting works.
- World explorationRoam an open map of multiple biomes, underground caves, and surfable water.
- Encountering and catching creaturesMeet Aniimo in their distinct habitats and catch them.
- Team buildingAssemble the Aniimo you caught into a team.
- BattlingFight with that team, switching between members mid combat.
Combat is real-time, and you are in it
There are no turns. Combat runs in real time and asks you to move, dodge, manage skill cooldowns, switch between team members and watch your stamina. Positioning matters because you can be hit while you are thinking.
Your Pathfinder participates directly alongside your Aniimo. That changes what a team is for. You are not a trainer picking moves from a menu; you are another body on the field, and your team is built around fighting with you rather than for you.
The practical consequence for a new player: reflexes count. Stamina is a resource you can run out of at a bad moment, and switching team members mid-fight is a tool, not a menu chore.
A world with nothing locked behind you
The map is completely open. There are no locked areas, so the entire world is accessible from the moment you start. Nobody is gating a region behind a story beat or a level requirement.
There is a lot to be open. The world has multiple biomes, distinct habitats where different Aniimo live, underground caves, and water you can surf across. Because habitats are distinct, where you go determines what you meet, which makes exploration the main lever on what ends up in your collection.
Special events add to this on a timer. They bring limited-time rewards, exclusive quests, and temporary map zones. Temporary is the operative word. A zone that exists during an event is not a permanent part of the map.
What it costs and what it requires
Aniimo is free to play. The core gameplay needs no upfront purchase. There are optional in-game purchases on top of that.
An online connection is required. There is no offline mode to fall back on, so factor that into whether the game suits how and where you play.
Launch is simultaneous worldwide. Every region goes live at the same moment, which lands on September 16th, or September 15th if your time zone puts you on the earlier side of it. No staggered regional rollouts, no waiting a week for your territory.
Who makes it and where the news comes from
Pawprint Studio develops the game. Kingsglory publishes it. Pawprint Studio also runs the Aniimo creator program.
The game remains actively in development, which is worth holding on to as you read anything about it. Details you see now come from a build, and builds change.
Two places are worth bookmarking. Aniimo.com is the official website. The official Discord is the main outlet for announcements from the development team, so that is where changes tend to surface first.
Where to start
If you are deciding whether to try it: it is free, it needs an internet connection, and the whole map is open on day one. Global launch is September 16th, or September 15th depending on where you live. Aniimo.com and the official Discord are where the real information lands.
